Not only does Mexico City protect its bike lanes well with very inexpensive barriers, but they also blink at night to be extra visible. Protected bike lanes don’t have to cost a fortune.
Even with an iconic transit line opening, @metrolosangeles.bsky.social sends out an email giving instructions only for people driving; apparently they’re even validating 🙃
Amazing to me that the Mayor of LA sent out an email update on her plans for climate action improving infrastructure and there's zero mention of bike or bus lanes, Measure HLA, first/last mile to Metro, or anything else that would actually help reduce VMT. Instead it's about EVs!

American fire departments: - demand wide (unsafe) roads - multiple car-length red zones for hydrants - huge fire trucks Somehow in Japan: - trucks half the size that still put out fires - tiny zones for hydrants (helped by no street parking) - narrow (safer) roads everywhere
Meanwhile in Japan… Having an amazing bullet train system with 4 minute headways since the 60s wasn’t good enough so they’re doing this. I’m so tired of the US spending nearly all its transportation money on car infrastructure. I want nice things in my country too.
