Escaped to Arran for a few days, and managed to avoid the worst of the weather for a long walk up the Corbetts. Up Goatfell then some scrambling along the ridges to Beinn Tarsuinn and Cìr Mhòr. Weather not good enough to add in Caisteal Abhail as well so one to go back for!

Proud to serve as Rutherglen's Labour Member of Parliament. UK Energy Minister. Charity trustee and volunteer. Occasional runner.
Then why not have a word with your own MPs @zackpolanski.bsky.social who oppose they very clean energy infrastructure which would get us off fossil fuels? It's all well and good to sermonise on the problem but it would be better if Green elected reps actually helped solve it.
This is what climate failure looks like. Nature, homes and livelihoods are being destroyed. The Government must act now.
Today’s example of the real impact of climate change now, in The Times of all places. “One bad harvest, one warm year, that’s weather. But three of the worst harvests in the last five years? That’s climate change”.
As exam results envelopes and texts land just to say - if you got the results you hoped for - well done - you earned those! If you didn’t, it’s okay to be a wee bit disappointed but just remember one set of exams doesn’t define you. Reach out for support on what comes next.
I have spoken to BP about today's announcement, reiterating that supporting workers is our priority throughout the sale process. I welcome the company’s intention to sell to an owner that recognises the strength of the workforce, protecting good skilled jobs.
Lots of constituents got in touch with me about the issues with school transport to Cathkin High. I've been working with Cllr Walter Brogan and JMB Travel to find a solution and I'm pleased that we've come up with one from next month! (Don't worry, I'm not driving the bus)🚍
There's a lot of energy in Glasgow and not just from the crowd at the Commonwealth Games! The 2026 Games are low-carbon powered - exactly the sort of future we want for the whole country - homegrown, clean energy powering homes and businesses. Come on Team Scotland! 🏴
Britain needs a grid connections system that works for the 21st century. That's why Ofgem is consulting on changes to make sure businesses like data centres only join the queue when they're genuinely ready to connect 👇
Datacentre projects could face fees for grid access to ease connection queue, Ofgem says
I saw for myself what nearly 100 families in Coalsnaughton impacted by historic coal mining have been through. I want to reassure those affected that no one will shoulder the burden alone. The UK Government is stepping in alongside the Mining Remediation Authority, Clacks Council + Scottish Govt.
I visited Coalsnaughton today and met with residents who have been evacuated because of ground movement. We stand ready to do everything within our power to support affected households, working side by side with the Scottish Government and Clacks Council.
Very sorry to hear of Sir Ian Wood's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting with him a number of times and always valued his experience. Over decades he built a legacy in engineering, oil + gas and in recent decades philanthropy around the world, always with Aberdeen at heart.
Berlin steht zusammen.
Saturday night enjoying a gig by one of my constituency team’s band in Glasgow - such a talented team!
Britain has a highly resilient energy system. It's right that we continue to make sure that always remains the case. It is categorically untrue to claim that blackouts are an "engineering certainty". This is simply sensationalist nonsense.
Proud MP for Rutherglen and Tunnocks to see the world famous tea cake feature in the opening ceremony last night! Now we need to get the humble caramel wafer the same recognition…
As the Commonwealth Games 2026 open in Glasgow I went a wee run from Rutherglen round some of the lasting signs from 2014 - from the Games Village still great housing in Dalmarnock to Glasgow Green and back.
Four Scottish 🏴 Ministers now at the heart of the UK’s energy policy - working to tackle the affordability crisis while delivering energy security, investment, jobs and opportunities across Scotland.
Plans to re-power Whitelee could ✅power 650,000 homes ✅boost Scotland's economy by £330 million ✅create the jobs that give communities hope and a real stake in Britain's clean energy future
Solar power is right now generating more electricity than any other source! ☀️ We're making it easier for households + businesses to install solar panels on roofs and plug-in solar - helping cut energy costs, reduce pressure on the grid and support Britain’s clean energy future.
Delighted to be staying on as Energy Minister! In two years we've made a lot of progress but more to do - on affordability, strengthening our energy security and resilience, the Clean Power Mission, the great grid upgrade, public ownership through GB Energy and so much more.
A mission to end rough sleeping is exactly the scale of ambition we need as a country to solve a problem that simply shouldn't exist. Hopefully it will be shared by the Scottish Government too, where rough sleeping rose by 28% in a year - to the highest levels since 2010.
☀️🔋A brilliant display of solar power in action on the roof of Stratford Library with Community Energy Newham. Climbed up to see it in action with @metecoban92.bsky.social, Energy Minister @michaelshanksmp.co.uk and Community Energy London - who have delivered cleaner energy for our community!
A hopeful speech from our new PM - a new resolution with the right values at the heart of government. "Let’s build a national sense of unity, of common purpose, and positivity. Let us make this the moment when Britain starts to believe again. The moment we bring back hope."
Catching some new (and some newly mapped!) streets in Darnley, Kennishead and Priesthill today! Lovely weather for it. #everysinglestreet
A new chapter for community energy 📚☀️ Projects like Community Energy Newham’s at Stratford Library, powered by community owned solar panels are reducing energy bills, giving local people more control over their energy future and ensuring the benefits stay in the community.
Very on brand 10k race tonight to finish off the week - “run the blades” at Whitelee Windfarm! Amazing views and a great route (apart from a killer final hill) and lots of clean power - what’s not to like!
First day of the summer recess and I’m in very sunny Blantyre doing another street surgery - thanks to everyone who had a chat on their doorsteps!
I have today written to the Chair of NESO to reiterate my support for the work NESO staff do to balance our grid 24/7 and to restate our commitment to taking seriously the allegations that have been made in recent days. We must now allow the independent review to run its course.
