This was fun! My undergrad majors were geography and linguistics. I am not surprised by this result. I grew up in CA and have lived here most of my life but my family is from MI and I lived in Ann Arbor for two years.

I thought I'd work on this project and just have to sort out the code but it always comes back to data management. Where are my files? Where is the metadata? Why is google drive zipping them in batches of two files? Why don't we have a better place to put these files than google drive?

I'm finally getting back to my STAC catalog work and I've completely forgotten which tool I was using to edit the code.

I finally have assembled all the data for this map (I think... cross your fingers). Now I need to make it look like the other map I made for this project. I'm loving my coastline solution. I love how at a distance, your eye fills in gray for the ocean, but it's actually white like the land.

It's lucky that I was looking for our old campus maps last week because someone came in to the map room today looking for old maps of Sacramento. I had worked out some of the wierdnesses of our filing system and made things run a little more smoothly.

Today was a good day. Two colleagues worked on their own map projects in the map room while my intern and I sorted through piles of maps donated to the library for consideration for the collection. This is what I want this space to be - a place for the map community to work & connect.

This campus map had a note that it can't be cataloged because it has no date. Challenge accepted! It's probably from 1950. It took me, @wildintellect.com , and my intern 20 minutes using building dates. Don't freak out about the sticky notes. The map is encapsulated in milar.

I have this nutty idea to mash up open source geospatial project names with candy bar logos to make stickers. For example, PostGIS in the Snickers font or QGIS in the Twix font on a candy bar shaped background. Which candy bar would you pair with a specific tool? #gischat

It's always interesting to learn about ways to communicate with maps! I, like probably most of us, work with visuals typically, but I can imagine that my design choices would change if I needed to communicate with texture. #gischat

We’re not changing it.

I spent about two hours today (three with drive time) doing medical imaging. Everything is fine. But now I'm tired and dehydrated and my day is shit for getting anything done and I'm cranky. Gonna get a cup of tea and fire up the laptop and try to do something.

The recent deaths of so many celebrities remind us of our values. We mourn their losses not only for their talent and ability to entertain but because they made the world better. But they were human and so are we. We can continue their work and become better in the process.

What a cool project! I made an issue on my GitHub repo for the STAC map I'm developing for some of our scanned maps to see if their georeferencing workflow is something we can use.
