Here's a letter in the @financialtimes.com today from me and others at the @nebriefing.bsky.social making the case that the national renewal Burnham is calling for of trust, hope and 'good growth in every postcode' is enabled by the country being properly informed on the climate and nature crisis.

I'm hearing rumour and counter rumour about Andy Burnham and North Sea Oil and Gas. If he says the wrong thing, his entire hope and trust agenda will be in the bin - not just on climate. We'll know he can be bought to do what he knows is wrong. So I'm sitting here with my fingers crossed.

Exactly. There will be no new normal. The weather will keep becoming more extreme until the world decarbonises. We might have the odd calmer year but the trend will be more extreme. So today’s UK weather is the least extreme we can ever expect. Time to finally WAKE UP.

Good grief, they are really plumbing the depths here. While it would obviously be a disaster for Starmer, by FAR the best thing for the UK and the long term vitality of the Labour Party would be a Green win in Gorton and Denton. I hope remaining progressive Labour members are also praying for this
