Only one game, obviously, but: wow, Bryce Harper was playing shallow in RF last night baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-playe...

I don't actually think they're going to get there, I don't really believe in them, yes there are a half-dozen teams ahead of them, but .. [Toronto is only 4 games out of a playoff spot]
Wrote about Ryan Zeferjahn, who has some extremely loud metrics, simply stopped walking people, and has the chance to be the most impactful add of the entire Deadline -- even if you don't know who he is. --> www.mlb.com/cubs/news/ry...
The new Cubs reliever who shares leaderboards with Miz and Miller
The biggest name the Cubs acquired at the Trade Deadline is probably Kevin Gausman, who once was the No. 4 overall pick in the Draft, who has garnered Cy Young votes in three different seasons and who...

The Dodgers are without question the most talented team and most likely to win the World Series Also, over last 30 days, they have 5th-worst bullpen ERA (5.16), are 20th in runs scored, & have maybe the weakest right-now C situation Both things are true, it's why baseball rules
Writing about Ryan Zeferjahn and I cannot believe how many times I am referencing Mason Miller and Jacob Misiorowski here
Slow, power-mashing, maybe-going-to-set-all-time-strikeout-record guy at leadoff Elite contact hitter with very little power at all to speak of at cleanup Just as the baseball gods intended (I'm not laughing at the lineup choices. Just .. wow, we have come a long way.)
The Braves have released Andrew "Ryan Howard, but on the Rockies" McCutchen from a minor league deal.
I think it was a successful trade deadline, because fans of every team are mad at somebody in some way
Jeff Hoffman has had an absolutely bizarre year where he's had some massive blow-ups, but also since the start of June, has a 1.33 ERA with a 27/7 K/BB. I have no idea what to make of him, but I think someone will be happy to trade for him.
Erik Miller is OK, but wow, that's all that Marcelo Mayer is worth?
I really like what the Cubs have done today, adding a lot of depth to a staff that really needed it. Still no one I'm really excited about starting a Game 1, though. Tons of guys I'd be happy with for Game 3. Some guys you've live with for G2. But anyone who's matching up with Sale, etc? Nah.
I will be more than mildly surprised if he isn't in Boston in the next two hours
Really hoping the Angels move Zach Neto today. If they don’t move him, his attitude riding this ghost ship of a team to 100 losses is going to be incredible to watch. And by incredible I mean infuriating.
Come on, George. 2 for 3, these have been pretty easy so far.
Let's throw out some destinations Springer: ATL, PIT, or BOS if they finally move Yoshida Gausman: MIL, ATL, or Cubs Varsho: AZ or HOU
Every NYY fan is freaking out about needing a C, and Wells hasn't been good. But also, it's hard to see where they go. Jeffers/Goodman probably aren't moving? Stephenson is a poor defender and just-OK hitter. Not a lot of options here.
I have no particular opinion on Kris Bubic other than: oh wow, someone really is going to give LA something for Eric Lauer, aren't they
Enjoyed this look back on how the Astros got Yordan a decade ago -- particularly the part about how LA thought Houston was interested in a different Y. Alvarez www.mlb.com/astros/news/...

This year has been kind of a wash for Brenton Doyle, who's missed time due to injury, but he's been a fantastic defensive outfielder prior to 2026 in his career baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-playe...
I still don't think it'll happen, but: if the Angels really do tear it down finally, and given they've already moved Soriano / Adell / O'Hoppe and may yet move Detmers / Neto .. is this what finally changes Trout's mind?
Caller to @mikeferrin.bsky.social's show right now made me cackle: the O's, Rangers, and A's all seem to be sellers, so maybe it's true that Alonso, Nimmo, and McNeil weren't going to have been the saviors of the 2026 Mets season?
A fun fact about new Blue Jays starter José Soriano: his curve misses bats by nearly 8 inches. It's one of the biggest bat-missing pitches in the game this year. baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/...
I like the Cubs getting Gausman, and there's some very positive underlying stuff that the ERA obscures, but also I am very interested in knowing what they can do about the skyrocking walk rate here
I think adding Arraez to the Philly lineup is fine enough. I think .. putting Harper in the OF, and Stott at 3B, and .. man, that defense is going to be a problem (derogatory)
Arraez will be the guy people focus on, but Caleb Kilian massively added velo, and jumped his K% from 15 (in 2024) to 28% (now). 4.26 ERA is whatever, but 3.33 xERA is much better. He's very interesting here. baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-playe...
