I finished Franciszek Dmochowski’s 1800 Polish translation of The Iliad which I expected to be archaic, but it turns out to be slightly abridged as well. It rhymed which is why I chose it, only to realise the original doesn’t. I saw Emily Wilson’s translation on sale, so I’m going through it now.

It’s crazy to me to see fan backlash over how bad Avengers Doomsday looks. Don’t get me wrong, it looks horrible, but that’s how those movies looked to me since age of ultron. It’s like seeing people break out of an illusion spell.

Folks have a lot of pet peeves with movies these days, but my biggest one is probably that an absurd number of score composers are afraid of melody. I should be walking out of a theater humming your lietmotifs, you cowards, not feeling vaguely unsettled by ambient atonal strings
