AI glasses are awful but so are AI pins, bracelets, and pendants that are always recording. By their very nature they are nonconsensual (and makes teaching more of a challenge).

That’s why Meta is going full court press on their PR and celebrity endorsements. They remember how people ran google glass outta town.
So much good discussion of The Odyssey (deserves it). My small contribution: I wish it didn’t leave out Nausicaa and the Phoenicians. They were a great counter model to the lapse of Zeus’s law—an example of renewed social and political possibilities.
This was riveting and informative. Also sad that so much of the sci fi I enjoyed as a kid seems to be guiding the very worst developments of the present.
Maybe we should be talking more about the sublime…

But mostly, a journey that should take half an hour ends up taking 10 years. Traffic.
It makes a lot of sense to me that the most profitable summer movies have also leaned the most into practical effects while films that seem to use a lot of computer-generated images are being avoided by audiences.

NYC’s small business owners have said it over and over: endless paperwork and uncertainty has made getting their stores up and running too difficult. So we’re cutting red tape, eliminating redundant permits (did you know you need a permit just to serve some ice cream?), and speeding up inspections.

Every single regulatory grade monitor in the Chicago area is recording over 400 µg/m³ of PM2.5 smoke pollution. This is so far beyond anything in the historical record it’s difficult to communicate how extreme this event really is
I think one reason data center outrage is so pronounced is people spent decades recycling and composting and otherwise scrimping to offset energy use and protect clean water, and the second we hit an inflection point for cheap electricity the banking industry said we’re taking all of it, fuck you
