If you’re feeling anxious about an upcoming event just keep in mind that every decade there is a 1% chance a cosmic gamma ray burst will completely destroy our technological civilization

This is me, with migraine-induced insomnia, waiting for my med to put me to sleep. It seems to have abated the pain already. Thank goodness. And my vision is back to normal. This was the worst migraine I’ve had in years now.

Sometimes I wonder if older meds like Benadryl were ever tested on people who experience hormonal cycles. Because that stuff is like taking Nodoze for me. Plus it makes my skin feel like I have a million bees buzzing under it. (That experience was so bad I never took it again.)

Another tip: Starting the day with protein and waiting an hour or so before carb intake can help you avoid the 2-4pm nap slump. I recommend a full glass of water to go with that before you imbibe caffeine. This has worked wonders for me on normal workload days and weekend days.

Here’s my favorite breathing exercise, and it requires a willing cat. Breathe in while slowly stroking a cat from head to tail base. Breathe out while slowly stroking a cat from head to tail base. Adjust stroke length for max cat happiness. I don’t include the tail. Most cats aren’t fans of that.

I’m half tempted to re-sub to Ancestry again over winter break. I seem to have updated results that make me nearly 1/3 Finn, plus I can add Poland, Hungary, and Carpathian Basin to my tiny percentages. (I continue to have a huge chunk of Western Europe and a LOT of the UK mixed in.)

Writing tie-ins is *a real fucking skill* and anyone who sneers at the people who do it can go piss up a rope. You think it's easy to write an entire novel to very specific order on an almost impossibly tight deadline? And have it be satisfying to read? Motherfucker, *you* try it. See how you do.

There is a doofus currently arguing here that no "creative talent" would choose to write tie-ins, and since I just did a panel this weekend on why creative talents choose to write IP, here are a few reasons. Non-financial reasons, for fun and because frankly it usually doesn't pay that well.

When you're working to get chapters to your editor but someone decides that you're done typing for the day (I did some more typing anyway, because clearly I am a monster)

Sugar, sitting on my computer keyboard

can i issue a challenge to all my game dev followers. when you feel despair (feel your grief first, don't swallow it), can you close your eyes and ask yourself: 1) what is one actionable, achievable step i can take towards a better industry? 2) how do i achieve this?

I'm not gonna be on LinkedIn again for awhile. No matter where you are in the industry at the moment, it's just painful. To varying degrees based on where you are, yes, but the baseline is just pain and sorrow. Painful for players, too, because beloved franchises are being negatively impacted.

Been awhile since I did standing desk work, so I'm going back to it more consistently. As in, I spent today standing at my standing desk, then stretching as needed. I think my hydration frequency went up as a result, which is good.
