Sam Neill was his generation’s James Mason: he never give a dud performance and was utterly convincing as a goodie or a baddie. He could do warmth or chill and you never saw him “act”. I loved him as the dishy, callous Astrov character in Michael Blakemore’s Uncle Vanya adaptation Country Life. RIP.

I am a long-time film fan of Jean Arthur's, and to date . . . I still remain in awe of her with every film I watch/rewatch her in. She remained consistently flawless (imo) throughout her career, and I don't just mean her beauty, but in creating believable characters, from beginning to end.

Never quite sure how to feel about my birthday, so I kept it low key this year after some intense months. But I still wanted to celebrate over here with this bit about fellow Gemini Rosalind Russell. Her wit, energy, and comedic brilliance will always inspire me. 📽️ Clip via Doctor Macro.

In 1952, a year before her big breakthrough, Marilyn Monroe played Nell Forbes in DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK. Alongside Richard Widmark and Anne Bancroft, she gave one of her most interesting and lesser-known performances. Sharing again my video on it here: youtu.be/zOfa86DnlQA?... #Filmsky #FilmNoir

Kicking off June and Marilyn Monroe’s centenary by dusting off one of my most treasured possessions, TASCHEN’s collector’s edition of SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959). A gift from my mum for my 18th birthday, and still one of my most sentimental pieces for an all-time favorite film. Happy 100th, Sugar.

Beyond a remarkable filmography, James Mason is associated with the rediscovery story of Buster Keaton film prints in his former Beverly Hills home and the lovely publication "The Cats in Our Lives" which he co-wrote and illustrated along with his wife Pamela. Such a lovely legacy. #BOTD

Today our recently adopted senior cat Negri had to undergo major dental surgery to hopefully improve her quality of life. She’s now under observation and it’s been a tough day. Tough weeks, actually. Recovery might take time, but we’re wishing for the best possible outcome for her. 🖤
