A reminder that there is no free speech in a private corporation- unless you are a member of a labor union. Labor unions don't just raise wages. They protect your right to speak your mind even if your boss doesn't like it - even if your boss is Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men on earth.

BREAKING: After the Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing, I fought back. And I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post. They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/b...

Another "voter fraud" allegation collapses: Trump claimed three states had more than 250,000 noncitizens registered to vote, but months later, the Department of Homeland Security is claiming only 185 such cases exist. It hasn't provided what basis it has for accusing them to Nevada:

DHS acknowledges the noncitizen numbers it touted on voter rolls were inflated

The Trump administration claimed to have found 250,000 noncitizens on the voter rolls in four states. But the agency's communications with states since then indicate that data was preliminary.

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.

NEW: @robertwhitedc.bsky.social has a vision: hundreds of D.C. residents on their way to nearby states to help elect candidates who will fight for D.C. autonomy. Starting Labor Day weekend, he and other local leaders hope to turn that goal into reality, @samdelgado.bsky.social reports.

The only silver lining in this shit cloud is that Trump's HHS has thoroughly disproven what libertarian's have been saying about loosening regulations. Despite customers shitting themselves to death and eating rubber being bad for business, corpos don't self regulate

I think, with a fair amount of regularity, that in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, while Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Chris Hitchens were all writing screeds one-handed about how Islam was incompatible with civilization, Gould simply got in his car and drove down to NYC and started helping.

Strongly recommend this excellent passage from the intro to The Mismeasure of Man's second edition on the cyclical surge to popularity of interest in race science. I actually forgot what a great writer Gould was

Hannity on AOC: Wow, she couldn’t answer a question about Taiwan! Hannity on Darline Graham: Why is everyone making a big deal about this question on Taiwan? People can’t event find it on a map!
