Databricks has a great write up of best practices for reducing AI token costs. 1. Adopt lower cost models. Most tasks don’t need the best models. 2. Harnesses are a form of lock-in, adopt one which allows model flexibility. 3. Avoid hard per developer budgets. Prefer dashboards and spend gates

What a clown show. I admired Jarred but this #bunjs Rust port is simply STUPID. It's done to appraise their new overlords (Zig is a niche lang, doesn't suit well Dario's vision of banning human devs). Lesson learned, never trust VC-funded dev tools. Yes, also #uv. They will sell their soul fast.

I wrote some comments on the whole #anthropic #rust #bunjs for those who have been missing the action: renfoc.us/posts/177887...

I am a highly educated and technically proficient person, but passkeys are the first new ubiquitous web technology that regularly make me think I am just a stupid big baby man

i've said forever that it takes years to evaluate any new tech have to get past your initial excitement bias, see what unforeseen issues pop up, understand how it scales with complexity this 100% applies to coding with AI also

Some (not so good) updates: - Degoogling has stalled. Unfortunately every Android patch adds more invasion like Gemini etc. I deactivated useless (to me) G apps and that's it. - keeping my FB alive. I don't use it but I don't want to lose a decade (2009-2019) of photos/history. - Lemmy sucks

Current mood tech-wise: 1. degoogle my phone as much as I can 🚧 2. finish migrating from on OneDrive to TabDigital's #NextCloud 🚧 3. kill #Xitter account ✅ 4. kill FB account ☔ 5. use #Lemmy, step down using Reddit 🚧 6. stop using HackerNews, use #Lobste.rs

We did it: DE 🇩🇪 LU🇱🇺 & SK🇸🇰 just decided to oppose Chat Control! 🥳 Thanks everyone for your help and keep fighting the good fight. 🫶 Chat Control will not get a majority - at least not today. More on why it is the most criticized law of all times: tuta.com/blog/chat-co...

When you use coding agents for something that produces the bulk of the code of an application that will be used for years, also factor in the technical debt that you are happily accumulating. When you use LLMs an an aid, you could, on the contrary, improve your coding culture.

Rspack and rsbuild keep rocking and improving. It's unfortunate that this project doesn't get the visibility it deserves around tech social media. I still remember TFW I got a build reduction from 10 mins to 10 seconds when succeeded in migrating an internal project away from CRA to rsbuild 1.0

Rspack v1.4.0-beta.0 is out: ⚡️ 40% faster HMR (incremental build) ⭐️ Improved ESM output ⭐️ Improved virtual module support 🔍 Improved trace analysis Subsequent beta releases will bring Wasm support and more 🚀

I'm sorry to inform you and your optimism on coding agents that our technology is based on things like the Linux kernel, or a modern browser: completely outside of today's possibilities. When you analyze AI, think at the Linux kernel.

The more I dig into generative AI from the prospective of a retired person, the less I want to be involved, or make use of the tools. I want to focus on using my own model of the world to contribute to society for as long as possible.

" #TDD vs cowboy coding" episode 531. Worked on a poc for 1 week. Lost the count of the backtracks I did to have a clean solution. Now I have mostly a working impl, minus tests. Writing tests before of even alongside would have helped ZERO. TBH, less than zero! Would just be more work and noise.
