Oh, we're putting tariffs on countries that don't do enough to stop slave labor? Can we tariff ourselves? Because the US has the largest slave labor population in the world! Again, periodic reminder that our slave labor population is larger than the workforce of Norway. Not a typo.

🤡I love it when US folk unironically try to reply to a Black civil rights advocate🙋🏿‍♂️, about how it's bad to enslave people to make cars. Your car parts were made in a jail by a Black man that has not been convicted of any crime. The US prison labor population is larger than the workforce of Norway.

1. Impact. How much revenue does my work protect or generate? 2. Quality. Does my work meet or exceed customer expectations? 3. Efficiency. Reward making the right buy versus build decision. 4. Reusability. How do others leverage my work? 5. Supportability. How much work do I create for others?

a question for the people who write code for money: if you could wave a magic wand and have your performance/promotability measured on any 5 metrics of your choice, what would those metrics be?

If I wasn't retired, I'd be going deep on LLMs to avoid getting fired, and remain marketable. However, I wouldn't allow an LLM to do work for me without eventually learning how to do it too. I'd use an LLM as a tool, not a replacement. I'd also start contributing to an open weight model as a hedge.

This stage of the AI push reminds me of peak cryptocurrency, which was supposed to change everything. I was never afraid of blockchain the technology, I was afraid of the people behind it, and their vision for the future.

You won't find me comparing Al models or GPU performance. When I talk Al, I'm talking about the power dynamic between those in power, and the average person. I choose to focus on the drawbacks of Al while highlighting the potential of humanity.

I talk to a lot of startups building security tools for AI agents, and my advice to all of them is, treat AI agents like malware. Even if agents provide a lot of value to those who use them, agents are a security nightmare to those who have to secure them.

I met Larry Fitzgerald two years ago when he started his venture fund. I've been serving as the firm's Technical Advisor doing technical due diligence ever since. Yesterday, I got to spend the day with him at the World Cup, and reflect on how retirement is just the beginning.
