thinking about this again, and at the risk of tooting my own horn (I toot as I please!) I had fun with the plural forms of enemy names in Illvelo Swamp. You have standard "Stanley(s)" but also "Dat Flower / Dem Flowers", "Einhand / Einhanden", "Saint Germain / Saints Germain", and so on
mojilove@mojilove.net · 6mo agoyeah if you look at things at the level of individual words, you might end up with a perspective like that described in a certain article. but what translators do is to leverage *other* features of the target language if there are elements that don't come across through mechanical word-to-word TL
