As one of its makers, looking at BKMag's 2015 Brooklyn 100 list again is a real brain-melting experience.
Never been to the opera before? Now’s your chance. We’re giving away 70,000 free tickets to the @metopera at the iconic Lincoln Center. Go to on.nyc.gov/opera to enter the lottery. There’s not a bad seat in the house.
Library friends (📚📜): I'm seeking examples of digitized books where the "cover image"/first image of the work poorly represents the contents — e.g. maybe there's boring cloth binding that shows as the first image, hiding something like Audubon illustrations just a bit deeper inside. Any examples?
One thing I can't stop thinking about in the Nathan Fielder/Elizabeth Holmes trailer is that she is bouncing her baby in the Baby Bjorn seat with her foot for what appears to be the entire scene.
Happy 60th birthday, Star Trek! One of my favorite pieces ever to report was on the 50th (for @gqmagazine.bsky.social), a whopping 10 whole years ago: www.gq.com/story/this-i...
This Is How Star Trek Invented Fandom
As Star Trek celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in Las Vegas, it also commemorates the origins of modern fan culture.

I also highly recommend @kaytiburt.bsky.social's reporting on the AI in fic situation! We've put it in front of the paywall, so I hope lots more folks give it a read or listen:
Heated Rivalry is at the Center of Fanfic’s AI Reckoning
A controversial anonymous document exposing Claude remnants in fics has collided with a fandom culture of production at hyper-speed.

WELL. If you wondered why I had zero things to say about the NYT piece on the HR AI fic situation last month...I had zero things to say publicly then. 🥲 Thank you to everyone who discussed this situation with me and read a draft of this. I tried my best to illustrate these longstanding dynamics:

Just a normal Friday afternoon in July thinking about Chrestomanci's dressing gowns.
I'm so proud of all the work we've put out in our first month, and SO grateful for everyone who's subscribed so far. We have a ton of amazing stuff in the pipeline—please help us pay these folks for their expertise!! 💞
🎉 One month of Fansplaining 2.0! 🎉 We launched on April 29th, and what a whirlwind it's been! Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who's supported the project so far. We genuinely could not get off the ground without this early support. Since we launched, we've published some incredible writing:
I have been waiting for this piece for a long time… and it’s worth it!!!
Very excited to get this one out in the world. I wrote about themes of failure in fictional tech shows vs the real-life industry—and how those read onscreen now that tech has clearly decided they're done failing. With a focus on Halt and Catch Fire, Silicon Valley, and new AMC drama The Audacity:
Very proud of what my friend @elizabethminkel.bsky.social has made! There’s no one from whom I’d rather learn about fandom. I can’t wait to read this.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 WE'RE LIVE!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
