LLMs have internalized not just human expression but the distortions imposed by commercial platforms. Their training data is human expression downstream of algorithmic manipulation shaped by recommendation engines, outrage loops, engagement metrics, and social performance.

If AI companies can't be penalized for design flaws that allow harm because they are "used by others," when they are expressly created to be "used by others," any consumer protection law is unenforceable as it creates the same legal paradox that has shielded social media platforms for far too long.

The authors claim, "Large language models (LLMs) are poised to become a ubiquitous feature of everyday life, mediating communication, decision making, and information curation across nearly every domain." We still have a choice. LLMs don't HAVE TO be ubiquitous if we don't allow them to be.
