I was up last night thinking of the things I want to go away That impede my rest yet the things I wish would leave are the ones I know the best the one's that spin in my head leaving me distressed I will not grieve a bit When they fly out of my chest all the things the things are just a test

"Trusting the Reader" creates lasting, powerful prose. It allows the reader to share in the book's creation. They get to translate characters through their distinct lens and create new truths about the work. Multiple drafts help me cut the over-explanation, giving space #writing #rss365 #editing

It’s about time we had a reckoning with the need so many writers feel to over-explain everything aspect of their stories, even in non Weird genres. Readers don’t need to be babied. Let us figure things out. Leave room for interpretation. Over-explanation makes writing worse.

“Sounds good to me,” I say truthfully. Just the fact that there is a reason is enough, I don’t need anything more, at least not at the moment. Thankfully a flash of light from outside provides us with just the distraction needed. “What in all the Realms is going on here?” a familiar voice says, clearly alarmed and annoyed in equal measure, and I can’t help but smile as I stand up and make my way down the steps to the open doors with Clara beside me. We’re almost there when Craig runs in with an excited look in his eyes and with clear intention to announce something. “We heard them,” I say, interrupting him before he can start. “Go, get the rest of the class and Irena so we can have a proper reunion!” He closes his mouth and nods seriously, then takes of running to where the rest of the students are busy. Clara giggles quietly at the sight of him. I told her everything about last night, after all had settled down. Val appears in the open doorway just as we make it there, and freezes on the spot, looking at my bandaged shoulder with alarm. “What happened to you?” “Got stabbed, no biggie. How’s Ignacio doing?” I ask, and my insides silently curl up with glee as I see his completely nonplussed expression.
