Ten years ago, ‘You Took the Last Bus Home’ was published. It was my first collection of poetry and incredibly, it’s still going strong. To celebrate the anniversary, I thought I’d share a poem from it every day this month, starting with the title poem.

You Took the Last Bus Home

you took
the last bus home
don’t know how
you got it through the door

you’re always doing amazing stuff

like the time
you caught that train

There will be a new book by me in July! People like it! The alt text was a battle here as the words didn’t all register correctly yet I persevered, like a woman on the edge of a cliff leaning into the rain-filled Atlantic breeze…

A book cover on a wooden backdrop: the cover features a woman standing on a rocky promontory in a perilous way. Foreshadowing? No, FIVEshadowing. That’s how thrilling it is.
