Poet and scholar, college writing instructor, wife guy, dad to Melody. I’m an editor at specpoverse.org. Science fiction, PDFs, socialism, Jewish mysticism. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Right now, poetry-wise, I’m very interested in how to craft verse narratives that are both fun but also self-critical, especially about questions of people’s history, using shifts in register and poetic form to communicate it

One thing about myself I’m very proud of is having several years of experience as an adjunct professor. It’s the most labor intensive teaching, the most precarious working conditions, & the least respected. No working academic deserves those conditions, but now there’s very little I can’t handle.

My current long, communist, speculative poetry narrative loosely based on the Hudson’s Bay Company’s raced-classed-gendered-ecological exploitation might not sound very exciting, but next year all the long, communist, speculative poetry narratives will be loosely based on the Hudson’s Bay Company

In Animorphs, the humor (especially comic relief character Marco) is definitely for kids but it’s also pretty funny, and in a way that’s totally different than present-day Joss Wedonesque or Tina Feyesque quirky humor, which feels really played out. Empty comedic rhythm vs. humor rooted in character

I used to be too much of a schlub to use cleaning as an excuse to procrastinate. Instead I’d just research pointless trivia or write poetry like a decent human being. Now I’ve grown up and have just picked up a million tiny children’s toys off the floor instead of planning for the fall semester.

Today is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. It’s always a good day to support Indigenous sovereignty. Many threats to our sovereignty link directly to extractive capitalism, proliferation of AI, pollution caused by data centres, and global food insecurity.

Some overdue poetry updates: I have a poem apiece coming out in Dreams and Nightmares, Penumbric, & Strange Horizons! The publishing timelines for each of these poems could range between now and the spring, but I’m really stoked that these weird heartfelt sci fi poems will be coming your way soon!

This is the summer of hit-and-run drafting, I have a perfectly good novelette and poem in the drafts, but I’m working on another novelette and more short poems before the fall semester starts - then its revision through the school year

This poem I’m throwing together doesn’t do anything super ambitious, but it does ask: what if someone in the far future found an ancient crystal palace style building 14 miles wide, and had trippy thoughts about it? Chance to write something vivid and funky

This is the most important topic my wife is writing about: influencer work as labor, and the unique stresses of doing lower-paying content creation as your main paycheck. She is writing novels about working class influencers navigating financial precarity and the shifting attention economy.

My head is so cluttered with editing work, submissions I’m waiting on, ane teaching, that my current writing I want to revise feels more like another job than a fun thing. I both need to write and am too burned out to write. I needed an idea for a fun short poem and luckily I ended up with one!

The National Council of Teachers of English has disbanded the Conference of College Composition and Communication and related journal, lovingly referred to as “the Cs” by colleagues who attended regularly. Though I never went, it’s a major blow to my field & people should pay close attention to it.

I would like a complete list of every medieval epic poem across Afro-Eurasia that either features Alexander the Great or compares one of its heroes to Alexander the Great. I know of at least two such works (Epic of Sonjara and The Shahnameh) and I feel that there has to be more

Being an American has completely desensitized me to commercialism, so while I understand and respect people hating the World Cup’s added halftime and water/commercial breaks, I don’t feel it. Capitalism is the US civic religion such that even some communists go to the equivalent of Sunday mass!
