Today is the birthday of cartoonist Jackie Ormes (Aug. 1, 1911-Dec. 26, 1985), the first Black woman to create a newspaper comic strip that was read nationally in the US. She created Torchy Brown in Dixie to Harlem, Torchy in Heartbeats & Patty-Jo ‘n’ Ginger. Patty Jo became a toy doll.

After bird flu Heihei not ONLY lost his best friend Hattie, but he became unable to walk for a week, and stopped playing with toys for over a YEAR. He still has a long way to go in his mental recovery (he used to be my MOST confident cat, and is now my most anxious), but we can get there!💕🐾

I've been handling the summer heat and being out and about in it really well. Even though I often arrive back home drenched in sweat, I've not experienced a dehydration migraine in a while. Most restaurants here provide mineral water which I think might be what's been helping.

How comics actually work: some pages take an hour and some pages take eight hours and they're not always the ones you'd think. There are sometimes entire weeks taken up by research that MUST be completed before you can progress. And you also must account for several days lost to the Horrors
