Gratitude should not come at the expense of someone else’s suffering. The next time you’re tempted to say “someone has it worse” remember that someone does in fact have it worse and that should in no way make you feel better. 

Hot take: everyone wants to talk about Scylla (scientists are bad at simple, clear communication) and no one wants to talk about Charybdis (scientists, especially in climate or public health, live in constant fear of bad faith attacks on approximate statements by a right wing career-ending machine)

As a person who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s when neighborhood programming was plentiful, there is a stark difference in what’s being l framed as “parenting” here. We were at the rec, the pool, the YMCA, etc. and they were all free.
