HS Math teacher committed to rigorous, equitable instruction. Forever showing people how to love math ❤️ * she/her *

I went back to work today after a 3+ month maternity leave and was greeted with so much excitement and love from my students and coworkers ❤️ It’s hard to be away from my baby, but it’s also great to love what you do so much that it’s easy to come back to 🥹

White board with writing “hi miss sheehan so glad you’re back!” And a smiley face Classroom decorated with streamers and welcome back on the whiteboard

The kids had a half day so I brought Addie in to meet some of my teacher friends and see my classroom 🥹 it was so much fun to show her off! …and I’m very glad to still have a month left of maternity leave 😅

I did in fact make it through the first two weeks of school (and then some 😅). Our baby girl, Addie, was born in early September 💕 it’s been very bizarre not being in a classroom, but I’m soaking up every minute of maternity leave with her!

Day 1 of year 12! Will I make it through the first two weeks of school?? Only time will tell 😅 Peep my newly renovated classroom with 6 full sized whiteboards all along the walls 😍😍😍

A very pregnant me in a classroom with lots of white boards on the walls!

Fellow math teachers who have been on maternity leave: Has anyone had a sub that was NOT a math teacher? It seems like there’s a good chance at least some of my classes may be covered by, essentially, a warm body for the semester I’ll be out for. I’m having a hard time planning for that. #mtbos ♾️

We covered arithmetic sequences and series in my honors sophomore class today. A bunch of them said “thanks for planning something easy for today!” 1) I’d argue they aren’t always “easy”, they’re just very intuitive 😁 2) We just got done covering rational functions, so I guess I’d agree 🤣 ♾️

Love that @ddmeyer.bsky.social blogged about the new AI tool I’m introducing to my students literally TODAY 😁 I agree it seems to have its pros and cons, but with flipgrid out of the picture, I’m really hoping snorkl can step in (and up my feedback game!). ♾️ danmeyer.substack.com/p/here-is-a-...

Okay Here Is an Interesting AI Math Edtech Product

Trying to prove, even if only to myself, that I can still find beauty in edtech.

I love the big puzzles in the NYT Thanksgiving weekend issue! Some of these are very difficult (I don’t even know where to start with some of the other ones 😅) but I love that they’re excellent examples of logic and counterexamples!! #ITeachMath ♾️

Shows a newspaper with a game called “true/false wordplay”. Some of the statements are true, some are false. The first one says “no common, uncapitalized English word starts with a silent N”

Good stuff lined up for tomorrow! - Growth and Decay lab with the IM1 students - Investigating/reviewing exponent rules in IM2 - Practicing with right triangle trig in IM2 honors AND it’s a half day for the kids with wellness activities for teachers to choose from in the afternoon 😁😁😁 ♾️

We’re doing underground staff spirit week this week because I needed something to get through this full week of school so I decided to make it happen 😁 Day 1 was blackout and it was a success! It’s such an easy and fun way to bring the staff together 👏 #iTeachMath

I listen to a podcast called Fantasy Fangirls and they are currently doing a deep dive on the last ACOTAR book, which involves a character climbing up/down a spiral staircase. Each episode the hosts use math to figure out how many miles she walks up and down the stairs, and it’s amazing 🤣 ♾️
