Our collective grief can overwhelm us. This book doesn’t let it swallow us it names & contextualizes it. It insists that we need writers who refuse amnesia. Writers who document. Writers who tell the truth even when it costs something. And now, I find myself excited to read El Akkad’s fiction.

PSA that the "I'm getting pulled over" siri shortcut also works for ICE If you need to record what's happening and also need people to know where you are immediately, you can set up the shortcut so it automatically sends your location to predetermined contacts and starts a discreet audio recording
