Maybe we should stop raising kids to obey authority unquestioningly and then act surprised when adults join cults.
The American political system has this adorable little tradition where one side brings a flamethrower to the house, the other side says “we should probably discuss the temperature,” & then everyone acts shocked when the curtains catch fire.
You don't have to become a political junkie. Just become the friend who reminds everyone else when it's time to vote.
I spent years helping people understand how power works. The thing nobody tells you is this: the people most obsessed with "law and order" are often the least interested in accountability.
a lot of people think “no contact” is dramatic until they understand it’s not about anger it’s about finally getting out of a system where love and punishment were delivered through the same channel
Every glowing tribute from another senator reminds me of every aunt who insisted, "Your grandfather wasn't that bad." Different building. Same script.
i think one of the reasons i love weird people is they tend to ask fewer trick questions.
The older I get, the more “nagging” just sounds like “a woman accurately describing unresolved problems.”
There is a systemic inability to adapt. An insistence on precedent, despite the clearest sign of insanity being doing the same thing & expecting a different outcome.
your friend says they don't pay attention to politics, but they're trying to figure out why groceries cost twice what they did a few years ago
Actually one of the cruelest things about recovering from cognitive trauma is realizing how many people preferred you confused. Some folks love “kindness” right up until it comes with boundaries, clarity, and the ability to say “wait, that doesn’t sound right.”
While I have no intention of ever fishing again, I'm opposed to IP 28 because interfering with tribal industries is antithetical to my values.
Every generation gets told this time it'll be different. Cut the forest. Dam the river. Drain the aquifer. Build the data center. Somehow the profits stay private while the tradeoffs belong to the rest of us.
America has always been more comfortable inventing villains than solving problems.
"Now isn't the time" has become a permanent governing philosophy. And NOW IS NOT THE TIME for that.
I used to think confidence came with age. Turns out it comes from being too tired to perform likability anymore.

We encourage nominations based on local knowledge, trusted recommendations, and good old-fashioned word of mouth. Legislative d...

I've always found it interesting how quickly people become experts on what a struggling mother should have done differently. Less curiosity about the person who helped create the struggle.
I’m not interested in building communities that only feel safe for the already comfortable. If that costs me popularity with people who need enemies to feel important, so be it.
Nobody wakes up and says, "I'd love to build my life around this substance." They usually say, "I need this pain to stop for five damn minutes."
If they only call when they need something, you're a resource, not a friend.
“Grassroots campaign” needs to stop meaning “funded by 14 millionaires instead of 4 corporations.” #OrPol
