In a time where we are surrounded by overconsumption of products, news, and attacks on our families, it is more important than ever to look to Indigenous communities and our leadership for sustainability, values-based solutions rooted in local Indigenous people’s values, and to face our role in the harm.

“Unless your school is very committed to teaching you [these skills], I don’t know how else people are learning [them],” Allie Lahey-Seratt said, adding that her on-the-job training “actually gave me an opportunity” to learn. rewirenewsgroup.com/2026/06/24/a...

Who Will Train The Next Generation of Abortion Providers?

Independent abortion clinics do much more than provide abortions. They also train the next generation of women's health providers. Now, these clinics are closing across the country.

Patients and providers deserve better than this. We're fighting for a future where everyone can access the care they need. 💜 And let's be clear: Roe was never enough. People were already facing barriers to abortion care long before Dobbs.

FOUR YEARS SINCE DOBBS.

FOUR YEARS of witnessing the devastating impact of abortion bans.

FOUR YEARS of people traveling farther and paying more for care.

FOUR YEARS of providers navigating political interference in medicine.

FOUR YEARS later, and the fight for reproductive freedom is as urgent as ever.

📅 Here is a timeline for planning a Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) Workshop for your next chapter event. This procedure is a safe and easy method of providing early surgical abortion. It's also used for miscarriage management, treatment of failed medical abortion, or endometrial biopsy.

Reserve a room with tables for the hands-on workshop and advertise to other medical students.

Purchase papayas or other fruit 2-3 days prior to the event.* Tell MSFC if you are using a different uterine model so that we can send the appropriate cannula size.

*You may substitute large tomatoes, dragon fruits, or small cantaloupes.Day of the Event

Set up the tables and pass around a sign-in list to collect participants’ names and emails.

Start with a presentation offering an overview of abortion care and MVA technique.

Have participants pair off and practice the procedure.Immediately After the Event

Take apart, rinse, soak, and dry all MVA materials before sending them back to MSFC.

Pack the supplies securely in the original box and use the included pre-paid shipping label.

Follow up with MSFC by sending us photos, a testimonial, or students’ comments to students@msfc.org!

This is what abortion training looks like. ✨ First and second-year medical students at the University of Toronto got practical skills and hands-on experience in abortion care. 💜 Every workshop helps prepare the next generation of providers because abortion education belongs in medical training.
