It's half term, which means I have a copy of Primary Reading Simplified to give away. Simply *repost* this post for your chance to win. I will choose a winner at random this Saturday (22nd February).

Focused on education in the Early Years, especially all things evidence-based. Proponent of structured and explicit instruction in Literacy and Math. Looking to share ideas and get inspiration here on 🦋 “Know Better, Do Better” 📍Ontario 🇨🇦
They both arrived the same day! 📖 I’ve been learning a lot about #explicitteaching and #cognitivescience over the past few months. Blake and Zach are standouts in connecting the science to practice. Decisions, decisions, decisions…(which to read 1st?) @mrzachg.bsky.social @blakeharvard.bsky.social
This is a great episode if you’re looking for more info on #directinstruction & #explicitteaching. I especially like the description of how “explicit teaching is synonymous with scaffolding”. Also how explicit teaching is a sequence that ends with sts being able to generalize and adapt. So good!

In an effort to denigrate explicit teaching and its practitioners, people will often say it’s “easy” and “basic”, while implying you only graduate into excellent teaching if you embrace ineffective methods. More on this on 🎙️ Thinking Deeply about Primary Education open.spotify.com/episode/0Lez...
Shifts in math instruction that are aligned with #explicitteaching and #scienceoflearning.
Share this with your peeps. Instead of this, do this… We need to swap out some non-evidence based practices with practices that are more effective! www.learnwithlee.net/when-teachin...
Such a great book study selection! Our school did it last year but this YouTube guide would’ve been a great complement. If you haven’t read the book yet, I highly recommend! @lindsaykemeny.bsky.social lays out 7 essential “moves” in such a clear and practical way 👍 #SOR
Check out our Book Study for British Columbia Educators! All 4 sessions are now available on Dyslexia Canada's YouTube channel!📕 #BCEd #BCEdChat #7MightyMoves #Edusky
My growing understanding of #cognitiveloadtheory has allowed me to better support sts as they learn foundational skills and concepts across the curriculum. I have used a “sticky note” analogy to describe the temporary nature of working memory, but like this one from @mrzachg.bsky.social too! 1/2
Trying to keep this account purely educational. I welcome follows from others interested in #primaryED, #SOR, #scienceofmath, #scienceoflearning, #executivefunctioning, especially those in #ontEd. No politics please! Trying to stick to this—Don’t take it personal if I don’t follow back ☺️
Something stinky, but fun, happened at school today 👟 First, we put our shoes in a pile. Then we decided to sort by colour. Then we organized the groups into lines. Added labels and a title. ✨TADA! ✨We made a concrete graph! “Dark shoes are most popular”. #edusky #primaryEd #primarymath
Just used this tool to add/follow some great accounts in #SOR #ontED #structuredliteracy #scienceoflearning 🚨Give it a try!
I've built up a collection of handy tools over the time I've been here. But this isn't even close to all of them. I'm always finding more. This Network Analyzer from @theo.io lets you see who is followed by lots of people you follow, but not you. Neat 🔗 bsky-follow-finder.theo.io
The Toronto District School Board is the largest in Canada, and one of the largest in North America, with ~238,000 students. They recently published a new literacy strategy. Let's read it together. You can follow along here: www.tdsb.on.ca/Portals/lite...
