Writing about Magic: The Gathering as art, story, and experience: https://open.substack.com/pub/dominarianplowshare?r=3ft3xu&utm He/him (PFP: Mark Tedin, “Swords to Plowshares”)

Vintage Magic the Gathering art! What a surprise to learn that an unpublished oldie for Magic finally gets a release! There are a couple more in their archive that have yet to see the light of day, so you never know.🤞

Working hard at my art but I'm still job hunting. Still lurking the LinkedIn alleyways. I have 5 yrs PgM experience with 12 yrs of leadership/vendor relations experience AND MORE! So if you have any leads at all, or if you are looking for someone to join your team, I come highly recommended!

What a pleasant dive into the canon-compliant niche within a niche that is UB reskins. It's a joy to read these getting puzzled together, and tangentially to wonder what cards certain artworks have been rescued from (before looking them up via diligent art credits)

My article today blends reflection with creation: I analyze the messy process of developing Universes Within proxies--& share my own. In a world where IP peddlers depend on making people passive consumers, it's liberating to be unofficially creative. give it a read! substack.com/home/post/p-...

I was on the Creative Text team for Nauctis and it's genuinely the greatest set I've ever worked on. If you love more traditional Magic worlds, this is your moment. Pure high fantasy in a new setting with so much respect to both the real world natural inspirations and the story of the world itself.

the (early, general) enthusiasm about kamigawa titanbreach fuels my suspicion that "hat set" is more a cliche people like to repeat than a useful aesthetic judgment. ppl SAY that it's the problem with MKM/OTJ/DFT, but clearly the promise of doing a genre can be really exciting for lots of people

For the unititiated: back during Mirrodin Besieged block, WotC wanted to advertise for the set after the Mirrodin-Phyrexian conflict, but not reveal the victor! As such, a lot of promotional material advertised the fight could go either way. With "Mirrodin Pure" being the Mirrodin Victory. #Vorthos

Early reveal at MagicCon Amsterdam Is this implying what I THINK this is impying?!?! Looks like from the Reality Fracture commander deck.

for @cascadecascade.com I discuss the messy intersection of flavor and mechanics in Magic's villains. should we be ABLE to defeat the Eldrazi? what's it look like when villains only appear offscreen? is yawgmoth just a big ass building or what? answers below: www.cascadecascade.com/the-mechanic...

The Mechanics Of Evil

Ryan Carroll takes a look at how Magic's designers use game mechanics to convey the power of its villains.
