(1 of 3) For the second time in a month, I was treated to a modern novel that harkens back to the halcyon days of 50’s crime paperbacks. @cwblackwell.bsky.social THE COLD DARK FOREVER follows one man’s quick descent from fisherman to fugitive to full-on criminal, and does it oh-so-well.
Yesterday, @micromancemagazine.bsky.social and La Rotonde Review released Heart Beats, a musically-inspired anthology I’m happy to be part of! Click through for a free copy, read my “Small Town, USA, Circa 1988,” and enjoy the other tales of love and heartbreak. ko-fi.com/heartbeatsan...

Honored to have a @trashcatlit.bsky.social story nominated for the Genrepunk Awards! Thanks to @therelphian.bsky.social for her incredible support, both to me and the rest of her writers. Best of luck to the other nominees!! Story link in the comments below.
We're working our trashy butts off for award season 🦝 Congrats to our Trash Family nominees for @genrepunkmag.bsky.social awards. Links to their amazing stories are in the comments 💜 1/4
When dogs walk by outside, Max barks his little vocal cords raw. When turkeys walk by outside, he has no idea what to do.
THE ONES IN THE CORNER by @cmattwrite.bsky.social is easily the most fun I’ve had with a book all year. The very definition of a page-turner, it hooked me early and wouldn’t let go, keeping me glued to the chair through a few long sittings. Dark, bleak, gritty storytelling. Highly recommended.
I started THE ONES IN THE CORNER last night, and I gotta tell you, @cmattwrite.bsky.social: you’ve got me hook-line-and-sinker. Only 60ish pages in, but haven’t stopped thinking about it today. Can’t wait to dive back in later tonight.
I’ve read ‘em all but the latest Frenzi (which I’m saving for a rainy day). Not a bad book in the bunch. Go drop a few bucks and load up on some fun, action-packed books. 👇
The 3rd Annual Point of Impact Trunk Sale is on until Sep. 1st! Nearly all PoI ebooks are just $0.99 on Amazon, Kobo, and Itch! Links below! If you want a chance to win a free digital copy of either Frenzi 7, Mercy 1, or Cell Block 1, like and reshare this post! A winner will be picked Sep. 1st!
More #BookMail, more short stories. My favorite magazine of the year is the Detective Annual from Guilty. Good reading ahead!
I’m in a short-story frame of mind, so today’s #BookMail is timely. Looking forward to what @literarygarage.bsky.social and @kmwriter01.bsky.social put together in this one.
When Your Wife Might Be More Noir Than You, Part Two. bsky.app/profile/much...
When the bookstore calls to say an order has come in, and you find out your wife is reading some pretty cool material and may be more noir than you! @uchicagopress.bsky.social
Another recent #BookMail, this one a new crime novel from @cmattwrite.bsky.social. Sounds like a wild ride. Look forward to jumping in soon.
I’ve been lax on my #BookMail posts lately, so playing catch-up now. The first batch is from @pmpress.bsky.social’s Outspoken Authors series. Doesn’t get more legendary than these two. @joerlansdale.bsky.social #NormanSpinrad
Thank you, KC, for welcoming me back to @literarygarage.bsky.social! I love Pink Floyd’s “On the Turning Away,” and always wanted to play with that theme. Finally sad enough to get the story out after watching the goings-on in my home state of MN earlier this year. Give it a read below. 👇
Most people pretend not to see him. Some look away. Some hurry past. A few leave spare change. Then one little girl stops & sees something everyone else has forgotten A moving story from @muchadoaboutnil.bsky.social about compassion, dignity & the cost of kindness. literarygarage.com/homeless-on-...
(1 of 2) I had no idea SNL alum #KateMcKinnon started a YA series of books! Reminiscent of A Series of Unfortunate Events and The Mysterious Benedict Society, McKinnon’s debut showcases her trademark humor, wit, and creativity, offering up a delightful reading experience.
I was lucky enough to snag an early copy of @brandonbarrows.bsky.social’s upcoming release, THE DARKER THE NIGHT, a novel that starts innocently enough — a man taking a road trip to visit his young son — but turns into a disaster when his ex is found murdered shortly after his arrival.
SEVEN ANGELS by @keithroysdon.bsky.social is a pressure cooker of a novel, weaving together a disparate set of characters — some with hopes of reviving the titular small town, others intent on bleeding its populace dry — and hurtling them towards a confrontation that leaves no one unscathed.
Today’s #BookMail is another highly anticipated novel: THE DARKER THE NIGHT from @brandonbarrows.bsky.social, a writer who never fails to bring the goods. Right to the top of the pile it goes.
Finished Whiskey Warfare earlier this morning. Loved it. A lean-and-mean installment of The Bartender, complete with Calder’s patented high body count and pedal-to-the-metal final chapters. Great way to try the series (free download below). Guaranteed to leave you wanting the rest.

Whaaaaat?!?! Jump on this one, folks, then go grab the other three installments. The Bartender kicks all kinds of ass. I’ll be starting this shortly. Can’t wait!

Today’s #BookMail is the first installment in Stark House’s new Whipcrack Western series. Love Marvin Albert/Al Conroy’s crime fiction (my favorite being DEVIL IN DUNGAREES), but I’ve never tried his westerns. I look forward to checking this out.

Happy #IndependentBookstoreDay! I stopped by my local shop, Lykke Books, and walked away with some new titles. You should do the same at your local indie. They need our support now more than ever.
(1 of 5) The short version: KANSAS CITY BREAKDOWN, the second book in the Detective Keegan/Gunselle series by @meproctor.bsky.social and @russellthayer10.bsky.social, is a sexy, pulpy noir that pulls even with its predecessor before mashing down the pedal and blowing right by. So freakin’ good.
We're excited to see Prompted Stories land in the bin - you still have until 8pm (BST) tomorrow to lob one at us 🦝 Here's what Andrew Monge @muchadoaboutnil.bsky.social did in 2025 with the prompts: A Morgue/ Funeral Home, Nightshift Worker, an Unwanted Gift trashcatlit.com/rubbernecker/
Just saw RATINGS GAME by #RyanCThomas is back with a 20th Anniversary edition. This book is a pulpy, demented, over-the-top, darkly comedic look at the news and what it takes to stay at the top. I read it a few years back and had a lot of fun with it. You might too. Link below.
It’s been awhile since I’ve read a short story as gonzo as “All In” from #RonClyburn. I can say it involves a hitman and a target, but not much else without spoiling the fun. Had me flipping pages as fast as I could. An absolute riot.
