In addition to having no experience in immigration, their website shows Ilya Shapiro (!) and disgraced former law prof Joshua Wright (!) as Senior Counsel. I don't think this massive contract was awarded to give immigrant children effective, zealous advocacy. burkegroup.law/our-team/

it may shock everyone to learn that ICE has functionally unlimited discretion over whether someone gets an ankle monitor or not. the only real limiting factors are number of devices and staff

Am told at the blue ash Ohio ICE office today that a bunch of springfield Haitians were told to just “check in” at are now having ankle monitors put on them, which, uh….. they’re not supposed to be fucking doing that

one way to trump proof the future structure of govt is to make a lot of agency court-like institutions into actual courts with actual article iii judges

nobody wants to hear this but I see this story gaining traction and feel it's worth reiterating that 1) pressuring people to self-deport upon booking is standard procedure, AND ALSO 2) ICE would deviate from standard procedure here if they wanted the truth
