People keep using the "can't put a genie back in the bottle" metaphor for "AI", even though in the stories they always get back in and current "AI" is more of a "we're spending trillions of dollars and the energy output of a continent trying to keep this bastard out of the bottle" situation
ubuntu (major version) kernel update (and now subsequent reversion on my end) seems to have coincided with my win11 virtualbox vm deciding to break. i can't be arsed to figure out what constellation of things have caused this, so reinstalling win11.
Understanding the ‘working class’ in the UK involves a deep knowledge of signs and signifiers, such as owning a car, having a mortgage rather than renting, making six figures+ a year, perhaps having a regional accent, maybe owning a car dealership, or even owning the means of production
Buses, famously for the richer classes and upper orders.

i've reflected in my thesis on the difficulty of using (some) foss qualitative data analysis software for interpretative phenomenological analysis (and the dearth of updated and *good* to use foss qda software generally, taguette is the only serious option for qda from my experience)...
while i wish atlas.ti was available on linux (and was free and open source), i am glad i can just stick it on a windows 11 vm on this computer (and that i have enough ram where that isn't annoying haha)

"Remember to always check the output," they tell me. If I have to read the original document to make sure the summary is accurate, then the AI is a *useless and pointless* extra step, and I can never seem to convince anyone at work of this.
If you use "A.i." to summarize something, you will never know what kind of mistakes it's excreting until it's too late and you've deeply embarrassed yourself or destroyed your business/reputation.
So it looks like Farage will be facing off against Binface. A tedious worn out joke of a perennial candidate who is given undue attention by a press who should know better and who appeals to some of my least favorite instincts in British politics. Choose your own punchline from the two below.
took part in a (closed) telephone interview yesterday with bf, and we managed to confuse the interviewer on relationship status (i live with bf, but i am engaged, and not to him); cue "now i am confused" and "let me work out how to code this" anyway, qualitative methods vindication, as usual
mech keyboard i got a year or so ago for the office is annoying me atm, perhaps it's because i'm using atlas.ti through a windows vm, but i'm getting a lot of double presses? typed "meeeting", then deleted it and ended up not pressing hard enough because i typed "meting".

I find it a bit sad that no tech reviewers or anything of the sort ever mention this as a reason for moving away from windows.
Another reason to hate Bill Gates. Lock this MF psycho murderer up! #arrestbillgates
research feels like an endless sequence of "okay here's an idea, let's check the literature..." and then realising getting to the idea requires reading a, built on b, built on c and d, and then by the time you get to d, you realise it an hour has gone and you're not much the wiser about a
