The blurb for The Ranger's Heart: Yara has only ever known a life of duty, protecting the people of Cel'Fiore from the Abyss, the Realm of Demons. After a very busy month, I finally handed in my line edits! These are only some examples of a job that is far more complicated. As always, I have the utmost admiration for my editor for being able to turn my word soup into a tasty dish!

A little insight into the editing process: After some questions from people, I thought I'd give a little insight into the sort of comments I receive during the line edit stage. (And why ai can never be an editor.)
Editor comment: How does one do this, just out of curiosity? that's not usually a silent action. My comment: My editor points out bits that don't make sense.
Editor comment: "it" her being his hair? Like, a leather helmet? My comment: She makes sure the meaning of sentences is clear.
Editor comment: The words aren't harsh, but the tone is, thus "clipped and defensive" My comment: She ensures I use the appropriate words and don't repeat myself unnecessarily

Editor comment: Feel free to shrug this one off if it’s a Scots thing, but I don’t think this is the right saying, nor is the right saying the thing to say here. “Port of call” is the correct phrase as far as I know, but that’s usually a destination. Suggest “her first instinct” or “first move” maybe? My comment: She catches where I’ve slipped into colloquial Scottish-English. Some of those phrases I keep, some I change, scene depending! Colloquial is fine, as long as it’s intentional. Editor comment: typo fixing is a copyediting Meg job, so for now I'm just going to ask exactly where the "spin" is located in an elven body.
My comment: Whoops...
Editor: Suggested change. He SPOILER bit, which could inch into creepy territory for some. My comment: This is so important. Sometimes I am so focused on the intended meaning, I don’t realise that my words can also be interpreted to mean something different. I am so glad she catches these things so everything comes across as intended.
