Just had a lovely charcuterie and carafe of wine at my pal Isla's wine bistro Chez Bernard. It only opened 2 days ago in Leith, Edinburgh but was absolutely buzzing. If you're looking for a nice glass of wine and some tasty french treats, I highly recommend it.

Worldcon programme just dropped. It's in LA this year but they're offering an awesome virtual programme that members can enjoy from any timezone. And I'm part of it! Looking forwarded to talk Justice and Murder and to be hosting my Urban Folk Horror workshop. Sign up if you fancy it. guide.lacon.org

great, another article where a book was pulled after AI claims. I hate AI, I do not use it, but I also hate that now I have to think about how to accumulate 'proof' that a work is mine from snout to tail. People are talking about recording themselves writing? How the hell?

Thank you to everyone who reported abuse of this publication that was publishing many many many people's work without their permission after scraping Daily Science Fiction's archives. The site appears to be taken down now, and may it stay that way forever.

Hey! If you were published at Daily Science Fiction, be aware that a site called Science Fiction Weekly has stolen the entire story database & posted it on their site. All of my DSF stories are there without my permission. sciencefictionweekly.com

Book 22 Dark Castle, White Horse - Tanith Lee Two short novels, The Castle of Dark and Prince on a White Horse, showcasing the different styles Lee could do. The one - richly gothic and sumptuous, while the other was more a surreal pastiche of fairytales, threaded with very british humour.

If I* want to photocopy a chapter of a book so that my students can read it (or scan it and upload it to Moodle), then it has to be recorded and reported to the CLA. While this is a pain in the neck it enables authors to be compensated. These guys are just stealing. *Actually the librarian does it

I don't know who needs to hear this, but the idea that "I bought this book, therefore I get to do whatever I want with the contents" is why the copyright notice exists

I suspected this is what has been happening with our backlist recently, seems I was right. We’ve sold an unusually high number of very old titles in the past few months, including old journal back issues with poor metadata www.news.com.au/technology/o...

AI labs buy, scan, shred millions of rare books

If you have retreated to physical books because the internet is too full of AI slop, bad news — now they’re shredding the books to feed their AI slop machines.
