Clarke's 3rd. Science is a human right.

If Amnesty can't stand up to Nazis then they are not needed. They could have easily stated that authoritarian practices in the UK prevented them from operating there. They could have closed and continued their work from abroad, at least officially, while condemning "Rowling" and friends.

1. Amnesty International has withstood threats from death squads and dictators. But it could not stand up to JK Rowling and the anti-trans movement she finances. It has apologized for calling those groups "anti-rights" after legal threats. Subscribe to support our journalism.

The real issue on Ceuta is the lack of solidarity with a Member State under external attack for reasons of internal politics and political exploitation. Italy, Denmark, Finland, but also the von der Leyen Commission. Meanwhile, more than half have already returned to Morocco.

I really like how this is mostly about "design for cache" and that applies to a whole lot of other stuff besides parsers. On modern out of order processors, most of the time you're not keeping the "ROB" full anyway, so spending a few extra ALU ops to reduce cache footprint is almost always a win. ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a fantastic article on modern and efficient parser design: www.arshad.fyi/writings/eng...

People call for banning AI, but I think that's not necessary. Just enforce every AI prompt processed by models trained on unlicensed content (each such work separately) as a copyright violation and make companies and their CEOs personally liable for anything the AI produces.

Tech executives have warned AI could funnel enormous wealth to a handful of people and create a โ€œpermanent underclass.โ€ Why should Big Tech get all the profits while we pay the costs? Itโ€™s time to tax AI.

Slovenia is an EU country. Granted, back then it was part of Yugoslavia and allied with the USSR, but even then it never was anything close to a "3rd world country." Meanwhile I'm not sure if the USA currently deserves to be called even 3rd world, perhaps 4th world would be more accurate.

Just a reminder that Melania was born in a third world country

If companies can't run data centres without polluting our air and water, pushing up energy bills, abusing workers' rights, harming local communities or wrecking the climate โ€“ then they shouldn't be allowed to run them A safe climate and healthy environment are necessities โ€“ tech bro profits aren't

EU weighs weaker data centre climate rules in win for Big Tech

Someone should just offer a sizeable cash reward for whoever leaks the files. American billionaires are probably mostly on the list or otherwise benefit from the situation, but surely there are wealthy people in the world that know they'll end up holding the short end of the stick if this goes on.

BREAKING: NYT Reporter Glenn Thrush confirms absolute panic inside the White House and FBI over the Epstein files. He exposes a massive conflict between Kash Patel and Pam Bondi. Thrush reveals Trump is terrified his long-standing ties to Epstein will be fully exposed.

While the riots might be in UK at the moment, it'll spread to rest of Europe if this service is not taken down as a whole. Unfortunately our politicians don't understand easy it is to have "algorithms" that effectively give full control over narratives with plausible deniability built in by design.

Ian Dunt@iandunt.bsky.social ยท 2mo ago

Of course the prime minister is posting on X about how bad the riot organised on X is. Fucking of course he is. An expression of complete subservience to the men in Silicon Valley and the White House who have instigated this moment.

The real problem (and reason the west is so far behind) is that it does not produce natural monopolies the same way as the fossil fuel industry and therefore it's a threat to the oligarchs. Meanwhile China isn't trying to protect a legacy industry and that's why they are so far ahead.

China is Way Ahead of usโ€ฆ. โ€œSolar panels can't be recycled!" Yes they can. 95% of their components are recyclable. Solar has the lowest environmental impact of any energy source. Now do coal and oil... ๐Ÿ˜
