I continue to experiment with satellite ops using Skyroof. It has had several revisions this week. The latest I have is 1.46. ve3nea.github.io/SkyRoof/down... A neat new feature is the QSO scheduler. Put in a grid square you want to work with a particular satellite.Say I want to work Hawaii BL11.
Waves of sadness have been coming over the breakers today as I think about @arcticvelocipedist.bsky.social and our many enlightening and entertaining discussions on social media. I wonder if @arcticgoddess.bsky.social or his other friends know of a way I could honor his memory.
The challenge posed to me by AL7ID was to get Skyroof to control 2 different radios to operate AO-7 Mode A. IC-9700 doesn’t cover 10m. Ran rigctld for the control of HF rig. Changed TCP port to 5532 and in Skyroof settings put in 5532 in for RX CAT. Ran skycatd with default port 4532 for IC-9700. 👏
The pirate DPRK P51DX probably didn’t expect me to answer his first call on 15m FT8. He went immediately silent. Ham radio always amuses me.
Good afternoon from amateur radio station KL2R in Two Rivers, Alaska. It’s been a nice weekend ham radio-wise. I can’t say HF is great, but this afternoon I worked my old pal Gerry W1VE, who was calling on 20m CW from 7Q2T Malawi using a remote connection. I managed several FT4 on satellite RS44.

First harvest of Anaheim peppers. I’ll make green chili tonight. A good crop of jalapeños and cayenne peppers are shaping up in my buckets on the deck, too.
I’ve been tracking RS-40S/UMKA-1 for two days. No SSTV heard. However, the special text messages are coming periodically in telemetry frames of 89 and 105 bytes length. Skyroof 1.40 does a great job decoding from the RSPduo. (Housekeeping frames of system status are 103 bytes long.)
Let’s send this carpetbagger packing back to Ohio, folks.

Still kicking the tires. Decoding RA0FF and JE8TGI on RS44 using the RSPduo and Skyroof 1.40. It’s not often I see a UA0 on satellite RS44, digital or otherwise.
A big part of ham radio is helping others achieve their personal goals. This morning during a very brief opening on 6m I worked Fred KI6QDH in Wyoming. He sent me a message saying Alaska was his last contact needed for the ARRL Worked All States award. I always get a kick out of stuff like that.
Happy double sunset day! In Fairbanks, Alaska, and other communities just south of the Arctic Circle, there is one day each year when the sun sets twice in one day. Here the 1st sunset was at 12:01 am this morning followed by a sunrise at 3:53 am. A 2nd sunset will take place tonight at 11:58 pm.
Summer 1972. Aniak, Alaska. It was a real eye-opening adventure for 14yo me. I worked at cinnabar mine, fueled and cleaned airplanes, unloaded Wien Airlines cargo, made weather observations, and observed an eclipse from Aniak Lake. Soaked in a lakeside hot spring 100 miles remote. Clear 30’ waters.
It’s fairly uncommon to see such a vast swath of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago under clear skies. Today weather satellite METEOR-M N2-4 delivered the goods during a pass at 2012Z.
Goddammit!!! I was enjoying the best six meters opening to JA this season when suddenly the power went out. My neighbor was felling a tree for firewood. I can see what he did. He tried to tip the tree over with a skid steer, and it went back over the skid steer and the top snagged the line.💩💩💩
We had visitors last night. They got into some cables around the shack, too, and pulled down one of my ham radio antennas. About once a year I have to repair moose damage. 🤬

Current situation on 6m in BP64. I watched Les KL7J work Norway this morning and received GM4WJA once at 2214z. The band is intermittent here and there, but anything is better that nothing. South Dakota in the bag. I’m at 43 WAS confirmed on six. Several years since I heard EU.
I’m pretty tickled with some VHF results this afternoon. Six meters kinda sorta opened at lunchtime. Stations in WA, CA, CO, NE, and BC in the log. On RS-44 I managed several FT4 contacts. One surprise was New York. Another was K2L in South Carolina! That’s a special event station for 13 Colonies.
