The TV show is gonna be a success because Harry Potter is very popular. THIS WEEK - 20 years since the last book came out - among the 20 "most read" books on Amazon (which aggregates Kindle reads + Audible listens), there are 8 Dungeon Crawler Carl books and 5 Harry Potter books.
The idea that Harry Potter became popular because of a massive marketing budget is cope. I was there. It was an insane phenomenon. There were kids who had never read a book before bragging that their aunt was traveling to England so she was picking up Book 2 before it made it to America.
Sarah Clarke - Not your doll@damselindystopia.bsky.social · 4w agoLike I see some people suggesting it might flop because it's going to be bad or a retread of the films and ngl if quality writing and originality mattered more than a massive marketing budget, those books would never have become the massive phenomenon they did.
If Harry Potter, the bestselling book series of all time, was successful because of a massive marketing budget, they'd simply reproduce the phenomenon to sell more books. But they can't - they don't know how. bsky.app/profile/rive...
