To Nkroachment: Yarbles.

Woke up this morning a random urge to play this album - maybe I dreamt about it or something? Must be mellowing in my old age 'cos I even like the pop-ska polka-hoedown tracks nowadays, I used to skip 'em back in't day. Suggested titular update: Take The Meth-Heads Bathing. p.s. Mondays are foul.

Today's chazza booty, 50p each. I'm not familiar with TWGC's music, just the name - "country noir" apparently? - but I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this comp of Billy's earliest recs. I also bought the new Durutti Column CD but I'm saving that for later, when the red wine's uncorked, etc.

I don't traverse these dusty backroads too often nowadays, but I'm rarely disappointed when I do. Typical Bob: he assembles a large pop-style band, including backing vocalists & a horn section, then records the entire LP in a week in a rundown room with terrible acoustics. One of me faves, ducky.

The end of another dreary & exhausting week's job slog. Thank f*ck for Fahey. Kris Needs (writing for Record Collector) called it "hair-raisingly self-indulgent & enigmatic... dismembered guitar hallucinogenically entwined with musique concréte, found sounds, & Gregorian chants". Yep, that good.

This afternoon's chazza booty: £1.99. I definitely wasn't expecting to ever see a copy of this in the 7" rack at my local Oxfam. I first heard it on (& taped it off) Peel's show in the early '90s & have never forgotten it but I'd never seen a copy for sale before until today. Miracles take longer!

Roger B left us 20 years ago today, aged 60. I've always liked this informal photograph of him, pictured in 1978 or thereabouts - though I've no idea what the circumstances surrounding it were (perhaps @scribblerrob.bsky.social can shed a little light on it)? Shine on, and on (and so on).

Btw I started reading this again today - and it's worrying how much of it I've forgotten: a knock-on effect of 50+ memory chip fail rather than the quality of Mark's writing I expect? "We’re living in a re-issue world, filching from the past like magpies with a Tardis." #FallFriday (redux)
