This is the future of scientific papers. Instead of a PDF, the paper is an AI agent that you can talk to, ask questions, run analyses. No more digging through supplements - just ask the paper directly: "what p-value cutoff was used in Fig 3B? Re-run at 0.01." www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I support this proposal & could support many variations on the theme. zenodo.org/records/2193... The gold, green, bronze…labels were never a systematic classification & evolved like the winding streets in the center of an old city. Plus they're opaque & widely misunderstood. #OpenAccess #ScholComm

1/ In 2024, I filed a false claims act lawsuit against Elsevier, Springer, Wiley & Informa alleging they systematically overcharged US federal grants for article processing. The gov declined to intervene and now it's public. Some thoughts on what this is, and what it isn't:

The TLDR: Impact Inflation tells you when a journal is "punching above their weight", or have an "inflated value" in terms of IF. Golf rules, lower is better. IF is a flawed metric. Impact Inflation normalizes the IF so you can tell what it means. #SciPub #ScientificPublishing

Statistical letter groups reflect significant differences (p < .05) in one-way ANOVA with Tukey HSD. A: MDPI and Hindawi have significantly higher impact inflation compared to all other publishers. Comparisons using samples of Clarivate IFs are shown in Figure S13. B: MDPI journals have the highest rate of within-journal self-citation among compared publishers, including in previous years (Figures S14 and S15). Here we specifically analyze journals receiving at least 1,000 citations per year to avoid comparing young or niche journals to larger ones expected to have diverse citation profiles.

A total abuse of the concept of "academic freedom" and the right to expression. It's supposed, in my view, to be the freedom to express controversial or radical ideas without threat to your employment. Scholarly kitchen troll bait, I know. But hey.
