Fireflies and Penstemon digitalis, 2026 This is a real photo taken in my yard, made with many stacked 4-second exposures. In all, this photo represents about 8-10 minutes worth of firefly flashes in a small area. Several species are represented here.

A thread of recent phone snapshots from my yard. Everything shown is native to my region (NA/Great Lakes), grown from seed, planted to replace my lawn. Binomial names in the alt text if you want to look anything up to see if it is appropriate for your garden! I'll add photos as the season goes on.

Did you know that the bees that need saving are NOT honeybees? Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey. The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.

I'm not sure how to word this but, there is a heck of a lot of communicable virus floating around in the air in indoor spaces in the US right now. Vaccines are awesome but I rarely see an important key to actually preventing transmission/infection mentioned: N95 masks are very good. please consider
