Literacy crisis doesn't just mean people using grammar wrong. It mens not understanding context and subtext and a myriad of other important things.

I HAVE BEEN SUBSIDIZING WALMART AND AMAZON STARVING THEIR EMPLOYEES FOR MY ENTIRE LIFE.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury

This is your annual reminder that if you inadvertently write on a whiteboard with a Sharpie, you can trace over that with a whiteboard pen and then the whole thing will come off.
When people say this, what they're really saying is, "I think there's a secret that would make this all easy without me having to do any work and no one will tell me what it is." The secret is the work.
Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.
"Liberal bubble" has only ever meant anywhere where right wing perspectives aren't artificially elevated and forced into everyone's feeds.

There's a comedian that I think is going to basically end up being Bill Maher in 5-10 years.
It’s his fucking diary. If you don’t sound cringe in your own diary there’s something wrong with you.
Senator Rand Paul publicizes the pandemic-era diary of Anthony Fauci, exposing the doctor's private thoughts during the global crisis. The government logs reveal a stark contrast between internal policy debates and his deep fascination with sudden fame.

You cannot analyze why people "oppose AI" if you can't even frame it in the context of how much the systems and social structure opposes PEOPLE. We have public records of leaders engaged in child trafficking and none of them go to jail. You are surprised violence is happening? Instead of what?
I've been saying Alexander Skarsgard has been tired of being hot FOR YEARS. If he's gonna do romance he's either doing something slightly unconventional (Pillion) or just fucking weird like this. He just wants to be a weird little guy but everyone keeps casting Bill for that!
This is my kind of carrying on 😅
Honestly all the shit happening with AI makes me furious that I gave up of some of the sci-fi stories I'd been writing back in the mid 2010s. Write your shit even if it seems weird or irrelevant.
Read this. I'm not even a tech person and I've been warning about this exact thing for years. Technology is going to take on the biases of the people making them and guess which groups of people those biases regularly are against...

Hello everyone! Many of you likely saw this image recently with the Apple TV+ 'Neuromancer' promotion. Some know, others don't, but this artwork is mine, created alongside actor & post-production artist Milton Menezes, as a personal project and a homage to the original Neuromancer romance
I've always thought of laying off workers while bragging about profits was a way to gaslight consumers and employees but honestly these companies don't think about employees and consumers as more than numbers. They're bragging to one another about these things and don't care that we can see.

The Odyssey’s Circe Is the Best Female Character Nolan Has Ever Written
Nolan’s never been great at writing women, but what doesn’t exist on the page Samantha Morton conjures through a tricksy, powerhouse performance.

I agree, but I don't think it would be hard for audiences to empathize, I think Nolan specifically thinks it would be, especially for the kind of movie he likes to write.
i agree with this, but i think Nolan's problem would be that it's hard to make audiences empathize with a trickster when things get bad, even if they root for him when things are good. a tricksier Odysseus would make much of the pathos (which was central to Nolan's interpretation) very difficult

THANK YOU! The Western and the Noir, two more explicitly American streams of folklore, are also full of brooding tricksters like Odysseus. And don't get me started on how the fast talking jokey American superhero making money off his own antics just happens to be SPIDERman.
Americans have so much cultural background with trickster heroes, we based a whole art form off of it (cartoons, Bugs Bunny to be specific but I believe Oswald the Rabbit might also fit?), also Black American culture been had Brer Rabbit.
I saw someone suggest Nolan made Odysseus more brooding because Americans don't have any cultural background with the trickster hero and that might be the "Charlie Brown had hoes" of cultural anthropology
I know everyone’s afraid to hire Black women bc it might make a white man upset but I need some work. I have 5-figure medical debt, a cat that needs a vet appt 😿, a medically complex household, the usual bills that come with adulthood, and I’d love to get good skincare again 😩 HIRE ME.
