We are not yet a year into Trump’s second term and already DOGE has been mothballed, MTG has bailed from Congress, the administration tried and failed to present a Russian plan to end the war, and the ‘Secretary of War’ is trying to court-martial a US Senator. Time for a reminder of this I think…
The Covid enquiry's finding that Johnson's government was "toxic and chaotic" should prompt the question: what conditions must be in place for there to be good government, because the evidence before & since suggests it wasn't merely an individual failing? This question, though, won't be asked.
Can we go back to the days when politicians said that they really wanted to help people but it’s very hard and takes time, rather than saying that they want to hurt people and can do it quickly?

It's not possible to make it any plainer than this. This isn't about migrants or levels of migration & there are no concessions that can be given to appease these people. This is about seething racists who object to having to see or know that there are *any* non-white faces anywhere

‘Give them enough rope to hang themselves’ is a phrase I first came to understand through Louis Theroux. I find something deeply disturbing and authoritarian in the implicit notion that there are certain topics where audiences cannot be trusted to simply observe and assess on their own terms.
If a news organisation is making -200% margin after five years, it is not a commercial operation and should be assumed to have a different purpose.
