make bad buggy shit with your own two hands. its more fun and you may actually learn shit!!! there are no deadlines, no scrums, no pressures... so make shit! make it ugly! and unlistenable! and unplayable! thats fucking awesome!!!!!!

im lousy at learning code and wish i could, but i dont view that as a reason to take the easy way out like these recompers. listening to old game devs explain all the complex tricks they used on limited hardware is badass! they're cool and they existed and did their jobs fine!

"we here care about the human touch in our software so we wont use ai for [craft that i like using], we only allow it for [craft i dont wanna do that still requires tons of intention and context] cuz those arent REALLY creative mediums :)"

being old enough to have been into this certain circle of newgrounds animators as a teen before they made mainstream popular stuff like lets plays or AS shows is surreal. Seeing people so surprised to have only just now learned that freaking chris o'neil is a bad person is depressing.

online pet peeve is people calling litterally any image a "jpeg". same way they compare any white brunette cartoon guy to jon arbuckle even when they look nothing like him. ive been on tumblr too long....

i think what has started to bug me about social media is how everyones talking shit directed at the dumbest people theyve seen but are still in 2nd person so scrolling feels like a buncha strangers scolding you for common sense shit you've never believed or had trouble with

the oot remake is not based on puppets, man. you had like two people making assumptions and already everyone runs with it as fact. since when has nintendo been so shy to show off a gimmick style that they dont mention it and leave the fans to stretch and theorize styles that it looks nothing like?

My all-time favorite piece(s) of Chuck Jones' animation, whose talents as an *animator* are really undersung. There's soooo much I could gush over with the technique in both actual movement and character acting, but, most importantly, it's funny!!!

the constant struggle of being interested in really really old artforms and styles is that usually the only people to talk to about it are either insufferable conservative old nostalgiaheads or young people who assume you are insufferable conservative old nostalgiahead

Ozamu Tezuka has these little editorial sections at the beginning of each Astro Boy story and its really fascinating to see his perspective about how sensitive overseas executives were about on-screen depictions of violence despite their countries committing some of the worst atrocities in the world

i just like whatever captures my tastes regardless of time period or popularity or community context so i get to be profiled as both an "artless consumer" and a "snobby elitist" at the same time depending on what im infodumping about at the time

Donkey Kong 64 makes extremely efficient usage of in-engine coloration to cut down on the number of textures. Entire vibrant and colorful areas are created at runtime from a single texture just by artfully tinting it.

The colorful cliffs in Jungle Japes are just a vertex coloration map being applied to a single 128x128 pixel texture.
