“Caveat stacking” is an excellent, dismayingly useful term. Inoculating against predictable bad-faith responses can easily turn into a way of pre-legitimizing those bad-faith responses.
This is one of the reasons I left Twitter. I started thinking of the practice as “caveat stacking,” listing all the things I wasn’t saying that I knew somebody might claim I was saying, even though it was perfectly clear that I wasn’t saying them. It was bad for my brain.
