Niche complaint of the day: I’m tired of everything requiring a membership, subscription, or monthly fee. Just let me buy the thing ONCE and then leave me alone. Today I was prompted to join a membership to purchase SOCKS. Please just let me buy the thing and leave me in PEACE

Knocked out my long run early enough to beat most of the heat, followed by an amazing lunch, a long shower, and a few errands and chores. Now comes my favorite part: lounge time. There’s something so satisfying about earning a Sunday afternoon where you can do absolutely nothing.

By a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that all people born in the United States are granted full citizenship. That 3 Justices seem to be unwilling or incapable of a plain reading of the 14th Amendment is a worrying sign for future decisions of this highly politicized Court.

After a record low snowpack this winter and a 1,200 year megadrought, the West is already in the midst of a catastrophic fire season. This is a climate emergency. The Trump admin needs to quit firing Forest Service staff and send FEMA resources to our communities in need. We need action NOW.

This has been the most dreaded summer in recent memory. We’ve had what’s felt like a year-long spring and summer season, with record low moisture, high winds, and basically zero precipitation. My heart breaks for these firefighters and their families.

Heartbroken by the loss of three U.S. Wildland Fire Service and U.S. Forest Service firefighters killed battling wildfires along the Colorado-Utah border. My thoughts are with their families, fellow firefighters, and the two injured now recovering.

I expected this week to be a doozy, but after meeting multiple deadlines, redoing a budget proposal completely due to multiple errors, serving as a juror in a local trial, and having to take Penny to the vet ER again this morning — I’m absolutely spent, and 5:00 pm today can’t come soon enough

Public comment is open through July 13. Nonprofits, private citizens, and anyone else who’s concerned (all of us should be) have a responsibility to oppose these changes and add their dissenting voices to the record. (This is my opinion; not necessarily my employer’s.)

If the idea of political appointees from the Trump administration deciding what science we are allowed to do and whether your town really needs its roads fixed, you can read more about the rancid proposed OMB rule and drop a letter to your representatives below. @defendpublichealth.bsky.social
