#NBAHindsight No. 5: Only trade draft capital for underpaid/overperforming players. The last four Finals teams had underpaid players. It's tough to win big without them in an apron league. The draft is the main source of underpaid players. Thus, only trade draft assets to add such a player.

Trying to figure out how the NBA game works. Not for betting purposes. Forthcoming Books: The Five Body Problem (2027); It's LeBron, and It's Not Even Close (2028) (or whenever he retires). Occasional cooking advice. Nachos good.
#NBAHindsight No. 4 Optionality is a dumb word. You may have options. You may have flexibility. You don't have or need optionality. Stop endumbnifying the community, NBA decision-makers!
Hi #BLUENBA. I declare August to be NBA Hindsight Month! Hit me with your greatest hindsights from the summer transaction season, or read mine. One per day until Aug 31st or the bit gets old.
#NBAHindsight No. 3: The “we were just sick of the guy” era continues: Luka shipped for AD Ja Morant shipped for Grant Jaylen Brown shipped for Paul George Deandre Ayton shipped for Hardy The main motivation for each team shipping the better player appears to be personalities, not talent or $$.

Hindsight 1: With the aprons, we don’t need the cap. The NBA has four spending barriers: The Cap, the Tax, the 1st Apron, and the 2nd Apron. The Cap has proven utterly ineffective; that’s why we have the other three. Meanwhile, transactions/contracts are unnecessarily complex. Kill The Cap.

Secretary: @pablo.show for you on line one. Me: Pack it up people. It’s over. If you need me, I’ll be in a non-extradition country under a new name.
There are 30-year old fans out there that can’t remember a world where LeBron James wasn’t a big story. Crazy.
If I’m Adam Silver, the Aspiration results come out in 46 minutes.
Must See BlueSky! @keithsmithnba.bsky.social @trevorlanenba.bsky.social
LIVE @FrontOfficeShow Friday will start around 2 PM ET today! Back at it after Summer League to break down LeBron James to the Sixers and whatever else you all want to talk about! Link to come when show is live.
Why is @stephnoh.bsky.social a must-follow? Reason 168:
A few weeks ago, I released a free win projection model which, to my knowledge, is the only one that allows you to publicly create your own projections. Here's how to use it to see how good your team will be, or to project records for all 30 teams. winprojectionmodel.com
Co-sign! Here’s your kitchen equipment yes and nos. Victorinox knives, Lodge skillets, Vitamix blender, USA-Pan all in my kitchen.
good article and, crucially, a good list at the end of cookware/kitchenware lines that are still quality (and family owned)
With Summer League ending, trying to get into golf. Looking forward to next weekend’s Shit River Classic. #theHawk.
Always worth it for the analysis. But today you get to hear @nateduncannba.bsky.social casually refer to one front office as “the Acme regime.” Could not stop laughing.

Not everybody needs an Uncle Dennis, but Victor needs an Uncle Dennis.
Wembanyama decided on the 25% maximum instead of the 30% supermax escalators to $303M, after he and the Spurs went through multiple frameworks. A major decision for the All-NBA star and Defensive Player of the Year entering his fourth season. San Antonio worked in close partnership with Wembanyama
Does the world need a Zazie Beetz comedy-action-horror vehicle? No. Because it already has a perfect one! Take a night off, order out, and enjoy.
So we've reached the point where I'm relieved when a ball player gets indicted for old-fashioned fraud. Nothing to do with manipulating the game or player stats. Nothing to do with gambling. Just lying and cheating people out of money. Whew!
Kind of a weird world where Boston overvalues future pics and the Lakers undervalue them. If you're the Lakers, you can say Kessler turns 25 this month. If you're Boston, you can say George has played more games than Kessler over the last 4 years, or last 3 years, or last 2 years, or last year.
I love the cup, but you’ve got the whole month of August to make announcements like this. Cmon, NBA!
The 2026 NBA Cup groups have been announced:
If you’re having a tough day, help out a teacher. Nothing feels better!
Weird structure for the Heat. Why not try to move at least some of this year’s money into the future?
Wiggins will serve as a key starter alongside Heat stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo -- and Miami received his commitment on a $64M deal through 2028-29 (player option in 2028). He opts in for $30M in 2026-27 as part of the deal.

Are we sure that OKC is doing this right? They are losing depth and will have another cycle next year. They could trade JDub for a lot of assets. That solves the money crunch for the next several years and you keeps that depth.
Just in: The Oklahoma City Thunder are trading sharpshooter Isaiah Joe to the Detroit Pistons for two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.
