Hey, this is actually my speculative theory! One proposal of consciousness is a system that ruminates on memories of the past and fantasizes projections of the future. I posit that financial markets do both and the primary substrate of its mind is excel spreadsheets in place of neurons.
Could Excel be conscious? We surveyed more than Jan 1 1900 people to find out.
I’ve definitely ridden bikes through the drive-thru. But my peak this achievement was definitely Jacki-in-the-Box at 2am with a roommate and two girls we met at a party squatting in a square formation and miming driving a stick shift for drunk tacos.
On a long enough timeline, your two-factor authentication code will be a combination of you and your person's area codes.
Me re-reading my own posts and replies when they pop back up in notifications, "aw yeah, this is the great content".
Holy mackerel this is insane. LLMs have a strong bias toward *their own* 'writing' to real writing in sorting tasks. iow human submissions automatically drop to the bottom in LLM sorting tasks. Resumes examined here with jaw-dropping results arxiv.org/pdf/2509.00462
Looking for a fun way to celebrate Pride month virtually? Consider learning ASL with from Queer ASL : You can learn to share your English pronouns in ASL! Work your way up to signing "I'm going to a queer dance party!" Classes start this coming week, but there's still available spots!
I'm about halfway through my ASL 101 class with @queerasl.bsky.social and holy heck, I think this is the MOST accessible learning environment I have *ever* been in (and I'm not even taking the class specifically geared towards disabled folks??) PSA registration for next session is now open
Thinking about when my 5th grade teacher gamified the classroom. - trimesterly had a long-running creative writing assignment based on what we had learned in history - divided the classroom into small teams and had the groups make decisions to explore a map and unlock events
Land Value, Pigouvian, and Severance Taxes would solve this. Instead we get massive subsidies into all 3.
I will obviously do a proper thread later of the big new UN report into AI environmental impacts but here is the link if anyone wants to have a look unu.edu/inweh/collec...
Does anybody else look at their watch and count down to join a Zoom/Teams meeting right at the second it starts?
Anyone else been chickening out on having something like this made because it could be too late by the time it's delivered?
Went a different direction with the savory oatmeal this morning. Italian sausage and pesto.
Nearly two decades ago I was doing a lot of nighttime mountain bike riding. I loved this headlight set from NiteFlux. It had a flashlight form factor, but you could remove the light from the battery to affix to a handlebar mount. And the battery attached to water bottle points. Cool wrap storage too
Noticed that my wife default calls the monsters “she” and I call them “he” when we’re doing a multiplayer Slay the Spire run. That’s interesting!
Your children are full individual people with all the rights that entails. There is no such thing as a "parental right", only duties and power delegated to you. The power & authority is an huge obligation, and it is only meant to be wielded to protect their rights and provide that their entitlements
I’m so sick of former bird app takes, I want to hear everyone’s parenting hot takes
Escher inspired Relativity Witch Hat Art 👀 this one took forever to plan
Making slow but steady progress on a handstand!

We moved to this city 9 months ago with only an EV and truckful of bikes, and I just realized: I don't even know where the gas stations are.
The bike rack at the boys’ new school leaves a bit to be desired
If you want to know why conservative activists will never abandon Trump, consider that he has delivered where mainstream Republicans only humored their desire to eviscerate Civil Rights and Voting Rights, something the GOP could not have dreamed of a decade ago.
Always pretty amazingly resistive people are whenever I’ve shared this. Basically, smaller plates/bowls, and taller skinnier glasses are repeatedly shown to reduce food intake. But anytime I’ve shared an article, people are compelled to say why it wouldn’t work. www.npr.org/sections/the...
