Back to work. The train I was going to get has been removed from the timetable while I was away, and the bus I’m on has gone on diversion without notification or explanation. 👍👍

A good service is operating on all other lines. “Avuncular poster”. Semi-suburban salaryman. London.
It was raining in Edinburgh when I woke up there this morning, but now I’m in London where it’s not raining. Much to ponder.
Today I’ve learned that these yellow structures are the legs of wind turbines, waiting to be taken out to an off-shore wind farm near Arbroath. Cool!
Just checking, are we on the small pints or large pints tonight?
@swansonian.bsky.social Just walked down the Royal Mile. Nice to see a big turnout for your bagpipes-on-unicycle show. 💷
Holidaying on the edge of Leith docks. It’s not quite Edinburgh old town historic charm, but we do get to see Seaway Alfa Lift 7 in action from our room. 😎
I felt like such a Progressive Vicar observing the teenage self-proclaimed Ultras around us: “well it’s not ~ideal~ that they’re pretending to be hooligans, but at least they’re out of their rooms, off their XBoxes…taking part in society…in a ‘third space’”.
Hibs 1 Motherwell 2. An entertaining enough afternoon in the ‘Famous Five Lower’ at Scottish football’s Easter Road, standing just behind the Ultras (a bunch of black-clad teenagers with flags and a couple of drums, plus a bloke with a megaphone). The season has begun.

Next stop: ‘The Athens Of The North’ / ‘Auld Reekie’ / ‘Embra’ / etc
Andy Burnham being shown a Reach local news story rendered on a smartphone.
Pro tip: engage with local press. Takes 2 mins and it: • shows you care about a local issue • signifies that whatever town you're visiting isn't just the next input into the rolling PR machine (even if it is) • prevents being called out like this 👇 www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-n...
The bootlace tie has resolutely failed to make any kind of popular comeback since the mid-80’s. Something for my more ‘fashion forward’ followers to think about, perhaps?

Oh, gr8: sunday morning covid response discourse *throws iPhone in the North Sea*
Much to marvel at amongst these responses. The past very much a different country here.
As always, when we get a new Shoot! in, we share the player profile! This week! Billy Gilbert of Crystal Palace! He likes the Sex Pistols..... (From Shoot! - 20/10/1979) #shoot #shootmagazine #CPFC #CrystalPalace
Our holiday plans have had to be hastily rearranged due to Covid in an adjacent branch of the family, like it’s 2021 or something.
When you’re trying on technical cagoules in John Lewis and Springsteen’s Dancing In The Dark comes on the in-store sound system, it really does put a spring in your step. #commerce
Football clubs give up their dependency on Elon Musk’s toxic platform challenge (impossible)
Went to see the Kevin Keegan tributes at St. James’s Park, got there as they were clearing it all away.
Feeling pretty sad about old KK, I’ve got to say. Lots of funny little links between him and eg. relatives who are no longer with us; being at school; working in Newcastle in the 1990’s; the twentieth century in general, etc etc. The time, it passeth.
Currently reorganising my paperbacks and came across my TNT collection - aka the wildest, most ridiculous and over-the-top men’s adventure series ever published. Let the synopses give you a taste of what’s inside:
IG ads have led me down a rabbithole of Portative Organs and Positive Organs, something I knew absolutely nowt about 15 minutes ago. Amusing to see these sold on standard ecomm platforms, tho. “Only one left” - oh, really! “£5 off with your first order” - thanks! earlymusicshop.com/products/ger...
Happy Birthday to you, ‘In A Silent Way’ by Miles Davis – released on this day 57 years ago. Still my favourite. Those hi-hats! youtu.be/YHesqaMhh34?...

I think I’d categorise the Lumo customer care approach as ‘Bracing Geordie’. Brisk and cheerful intoning of the punishments for breaking the ticket and luggage rules; a breezy denunciation of “the chap who has got on with TWO suitcases who the driver has reported and I’ll be seeing shortly”; etc.
The Lumo Trains ‘departing King’s Cross lengthy warning message re: incorrect tickets etc’ differs from LNER’s version in that I can’t remember the latter ever including the phrase “please do not go for a sly vape in the toilets”.
RIP Bill Oddie Penner of the single most interesting article in Shoot! in the entire 1970s No, really...... #shoot #shootmagazine
