Radars across the eastern half of the U.S. States exploded with reflectivity ~22 hrs ago. Most is the result of birds with current estimates now over half a BILLION actively in flight. This is part of the annual fall migration southward and appears to be the busiest night of the season underway.

Loving the new word "funga". Flora and fauna name the plants and animals of a place or time: flora of Maine, Pleistocene fauna. They are lovely, evocative because rooted in poetry & myth. Fungi had no such word, perhaps because they're hidden, mysterious, somehow deeply earthy and other-wordly.

I have aquired tremendous respect for this ancient animal and its place in the Columbia River system. Before dams, sturgeon would travel the length of the Snake River to Shoshone Falls where anadromous fish were stopped from going further upstream. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/science/for-...
