Did the resolution pass? Yes it did! Advocacy or "pre-contract" unions like UNR-NFA will get more support from our national organizations because of member advocacy at the AFT convention!

"Pre-contract unionism" is another way to describe what all workplace organizing looked like before many workers fought for and won collective bargaining rights. That fight continues today with our recent AFT convention resolution to support pre-contract unionism in higher ed. @aaup.org @aft.org

We rolled deep at the @aft.org convention this year. We got our resolution on pre-contract unionism passed unanimously. We built relationships with our amazing union siblings. And now we more ready than ever to go back to our campuses and communities and build power through organizing! 🧵

Remember- student loan defaults aren't just a problem for recent grads. Many of these folks form the backbone of our workforce in education, childcare, healthcare, and the service economy that keeps Nevada running. We need affordable higher education and student loan reform!

An interesting thread and an important bit of history: MOST workers in the US are covered by the National Labor Relations Act, but NOT those of us employed by state government agencies. We've had a long process of getting our rights respected...one the NFA is still fighting in Nevada!

The 3 year BA is picking up steam in the Nevada System of Higher Education. We agree with our national organizations that this threatens a robust bachelor's degree. The path to sustainable college education is more equitable funding, not less school.

NFA-UNR, the independent voice of the faculty at UNR works to empower our members to speak up about our working conditions -- on campus, at the Board of Regents, in the State Legislature, and in Washington, DC. Here are updates you need about what the Regents are up to this summer.

Key Updates from the Board of Regents from NFA-UNR. NFA-UNR keeps track of the NSHE Board of Regents to keep our members up to date, here's what you need to know: Chancellor 1-year evaluation mixed. Regents and insittution Presidents gave the Chancellor a 2.78 out of 5 rating on his first year in the job. Concerns were raised both on his leadership and also how the Board of Regent's Chair conducted the evaluation. NSHE Employees unhappy at work. 42% of System Office employees considered leaving in the last year as reported in a climate survey. Most cited low pay, limited advancement, and senior leadership as reasons to leave. This matches what we hear from faculty at our own institution. Consultants sound the alarm. Regents reviewed a presentation by EAB consultants focused on threats to academia: federal skepticism, rising costs, decreasing enrollments. EAB underscored the role of Regents as being aware of issues, but not being hands in to micromanage campuses.
