@abdulelsayed.bsky.social has won his primary election for Senate in Michigan. He went up against record amounts of dark money. He won anyway because he stayed locked in on what Michiganders' actually need: a government that answers to you instead of billionaires.

Fighting off an extremely well funded campaign by corporate democrats, @aaup.org-endorsed Senate candidate @abdulelsayed.bsky.social wins in closely watched Michigan Senate primary race! It is time to get money out of politics and make higher ed free for all!

This is huge. 🔥 That this happened in Michigan makes it mean so much more—it truly represents a seismic shift in democratic politics. And very proud that my union, @aaup.org , took the extraordinarily courageous step on endorsing @abdulelsayed.bsky.social last week! bsky.app/profile/aaup...
Money out of politics. Money in your pocket. Medicare for All. Michigan... We won. I am so proud to be your Democratic nominee for US Senate. Let's win in November.
“By embarking on a campaign of censorship, Texas A&M has abdicated its responsibility to support students’ right to learn & faculty’s right to teach. A university that censors Plato & other texts abandons its obligation to truth, free inquiry, & the public trust.” — Todd Wolfson, AAUP president 5

Seriously, you embarrass yourself, @politico.com. A progressive challenger, who was the target of a massive, months long sustained campaign by establishment democrats & their corporate donor class, wins a primary in Michigan (not NYC!) & this isn't "the big election night" progressives wanted?!
Progressives didn’t get the big election night they wanted
LOL. Abdul El-Sayed WON the Democratic Primary in Michigan despite being outspent 10-1! Amazing gaslighting here.

Be sure to check out this incredible recap thread from @local6741.bsky.social on the @aaup.org advocacy chapters' participation at the @aft.org convention! Amazing stuff, ya'll.
We rolled deep at the @aft.org convention this year. We got our resolution on pre-contract unionism passed unanimously. We built relationships with our amazing union siblings. And now we more ready than ever to go back to our campuses and communities and build power through organizing! 🧵
Brilliant 🧵! Now, how do we get serious about fighting this? Gotta organize & UNIONIZE our academic colleagues! The power we as organized labor can exert on the economic & political system is far greater than shallow mobilization efforts. Join @aaup.org: www.aaup.org/join Get organizing!

1. The new Trump / Kratsios plan for US science appears explicitly designed to destroy US universities. Diverting money to tech donors is probably just a bonus. Gift link.
organize, plan, propose -- we do not need NLRB recognition or a collective bargaining agreement (CBA/contract). organize!!!!!!
"Pre-contract unionism" is another way to describe what all workplace organizing looked like before many workers fought for and won collective bargaining rights. That fight continues today with our recent AFT convention resolution to support pre-contract unionism in higher ed. @aaup.org @aft.org
Yes sir! True story. We have indeed doubled in size from 10K to 20K in last two years. Thank you to the support of @afthighered.bsky.social , @aaup.org , and @aft.org! And most of all, thank you to our members who are coming together to organize their colleagues.
AAUP’s @local6741.bsky.social has nearly doubled in size, and they continue to expand their reach across various colleges and universities.

One of many things I love about my union, @aaup.org, is its moral courage to stand strong—despite a lot of criticism & pressure from many directions—in its defense of academic workers who are being attacked for advocacy for Palestinian rights. Cannot say the same of all unions, unfortunately.
