never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.

I love my collaborators. Really cool pan-genomics happening in our group right now. Very keen to showcase our efforts at the Global Sorghum Conference in September!
Chess blunder alert! Game was equal until black played Qa5. What is white's only winning (crushing!) moves.
Opinions will be divided on this editorial from Holden on perils of AI in sci comm. I'll just note current truths: 1) AI-generated content poses an existential threat (@steinly0.bsky.social™). We're at the point it's impossible to tell if something is real. 1/n www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
AI in scientific publishing: Slower, worse, and more expensive
There’s a saying in the management world, popularized by NASA administrator Daniel Goldin in the 1990s, that the goal of technological improvements is to make products faster, better, and cheaper. Alt...

Looking forward to a great National Association For Plant Breeding annual meeting! I'll be here showcasing our GramenePlants comparative genomic databases and community initiatives. Come say hi!
A great thing about working with people from all over the world is you get exposed to many culinary traditions. Recipe sharing is a wonderful way to show appreciation and learn more about different places. Here is mysore pak, a south Indian sweet made with besan (chickpea flour), ghee, and syrup.
Got seriously lucky in this #chess game. I won this despite some major mistakes. I thought I was clever when I spotted the tactic of Nxe4. I would win an exchange and a pawn, but I missed a crucial move that would be crushing for white. Why does the knight capture fail here?
Fun #chess discovery today when I was reviewing a practice blitz game; definitely worth remembering this positional maneuver. Black had a small advantage until white moved Qg3. Now black is almost winning with a single move. The goal is to restrict white's development.
One of my favorite conferences of the year is happening now at @cshlnews.bsky.social! The Biology of Genomes always brings really exciting and thought-provoking research to campus.
How is uncertainty in LLMs output reflected in internal representations? In our new work (to appear at ICML 2026), we show that the shape of internal token trajectories provides a direct geometric link to behavioral uncertainty (output entropy). 🧵(1/n)
Started playing online blitz #chess again after a hiatus and it's still bonkers to me that 900 rated players can know like 10-12 moves of theory.
Another position from a kids game at my local chess club. White just played the very clever 1. f6, and black cannot stop white from getting a Queen. Unfortunately it has a very precise flaw that only you can find... Black to play and win, find the whole idea. #chess
I told a joke about at the @agbiodata.bsky.social conference about scientific data not being FAIR, but I can't share it here.
The FIDE Candidates Tournament starts tomorrow and the elder statesmen of the competition (33 and 38 respectively...*cough*) are the favorites to win based on Polymarket. While both Fabiano and Hikaru have been going strong recently, can't help but think the door might be starting to close on them.
Ranginak (a traditional Persian date dessert) is genuinely one of the most tasty treats I've ever made. Cardamom halva with dates and roasted walnuts is an incredible flavor combination. It's also gorgeous to look at.
This is a fantastic course at a great institution! Please apply (and come say hi if you attend)!
please share! 🌱Application deadline is March 27 to apply for the Cold Spring Harbor Frontiers and Techniques in Plant Science 3 week summer course! 🌱 It's a great time- you learn a lot and really bond with others in the course. 🌱 I was in the class of 2000! 😀 meetings.cshl.edu/alumni.aspx?...
I'm starting to realize that getting down to a healthy BMI is a weighty endeavor.
First time making hamentaschen. Need to work on the anesthetics, but nothing can be bad about a butter cookie filled with fruit preserve. Happy Purim to all who celebrate!

Here to lend support. Like I said, I wondered how many other women noticed and resented this. I know Nancy and I weren’t the only ones who did.

@cshlnews.bsky.social was looking particularly beautiful after the snow (and after the grounds crew made it safe to walk and drive around)
The grounds crew at @cshlnews.bsky.social is incredible. The amount of snow they clear in such a short time is really impressive.
A reminder that if you can donate blood, please do so (especially if you're in the northeast USA and can donate through a state or local center). Winter storms can worsen blood shortages so this is a way to do something very impactful for your community.
Baking mallorcas to match the fresh snow we got overnight.

Watching The Queen of Chess documentary with my wife (who is not a chess player) and had to pause when we were both sure we saw a quick glimpse of Stephen Fry in one of the 1988 Olympiad segments...only to find that it was in fact the famous actor who's a chess buff and covered it for the BBC.
Congrats to Abdusattorov on winning this one. And the Americans did admirably: Neiman finished 5th and Woodward won the Challengers division (with Ivanchuk right behind)! Yip also gained nearly 20 rating points and is well on her way to getting her GM title.
