Someone set fire to a kosher restaurant in Montreal. It's being investigated as a hate crime. A month ago, this same area, which is the heart of Montreal's Jewish community, was attacked by a gunman who killed a rabbi and a police officer.

Last night, Alexa and I went with Linda Jones and Milda DeVoe to see Shakespeare in the Park's THE WINTER'S TALE, featuring the great Lily Rabe as Hermione! We had excellent seats very close to the stage. It was a terrific production, even though it rained on us almost the whole time.
I really enjoyed CULT CLASSIC, the original novella @johnhornor.bsky.social gave away at Camp Necon! It's a fun, fast-paced cosmic horror piece with a lot of heart, humor, and reverence for the days of TV horror hosts. If you picked up a copy at the conference, be sure to check it out soon!
It looks like it's Jeanine Pirro's turn to learn what happens when you contradict Dear Leader.
Put the needle on the record Put the needle on the record Put the needle on the record When the drumbeat goes like this
Whenever I watch a TV show or movie from before the 2000s, I am reminded that they knew how to light scenes properly back then. (They also knew how to record sound properly. I never have to strain to hear the dialogue over the music or sound effects.)

This is a picture of Rachel Keller and Mike Colter in their new TV show CUPERTINO, but I'll be damned if they don't look exactly like how I pictured Laura and Booker in my Dr. Laura Powell series! (Booker was actually modeled after Mike Colter!)
"'The defendant's crime did not occur in a vacuum,' prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memo. 'Instead, the defendant rammed his car into one of the most visible Jewish institutions in the world at a time and in a city where anti-Jewish crimes are surging.'"

I didn't love HOKUM as much as I hoped to. There's some good stuff in it, including some creepiness and the seeds of what could have been an interesting murder mystery, but something about the story just didn't grab me. I think Damian McCarthy's previous film, ODDITY, is still his best.
Watching BANG MY BOX: THE ROBIN BYRD STORY brought back a lot of memories of the early days of Manhattan Cable and Channel J. What's amazing is that even as a 70-year-old woman, Byrd's face and voice were instantly recognizable to me. (1/2)
Wow, everyone who told me OBSESSION was great was spot on! Creepy, disturbing, and darkly funny (the duct tape scene and the "on your left" scene both had me chuckling, if nervously), this movie makes Curry Barker a writer-director to watch. (1/2)
